Review by Gloria Bellas, Librarian: "In the final book of the trilogy, Pennsylvania Voices Appaloosa Dreams, we view the beauty and the wonders of nature through the eyes of the main character, Allison Grey. Come journey with her to feel the spirit of the Appaloosa and experience the natural beauty of Pennsylvania. The authors once again display a unique ability to tell the story as they instruct the reader in the writing process.

Life lived in a small town reaches beyond the very dreams we all share. Most never realize this until they reach the age of being too old to enjoy it! I have always, in my heart and mind, lived the life of a small town boy, growing up poor, yet in so many ways being very rich. I can recall family visits on hot summer Sunday afternoons, sitting on the porch in a swing between my paternal grandparents, having them tell me how smart I was, and when I grew up what they expected me to become, and of course, being a small boy, my head swelled with the wherewithal of being told just how great I was, never once realizing it was a ploy to get me to do what they wanted me to do. Mississippi during the forties and fifties was a place of social acceptance for some, and no acceptance for others. Somehow, somewhere, this changed and as I see it, for the better. I, in so many ways, was among the not-so-popular, but not until I grew older and left, did I realize this. I suppose hindsight is twenty-twenty, but really, what does it mean...absolutely nothing! One day you look back, you assess the past, and you realize, you are by far so much better off than some others, and those "others" were the very ones who gave you a hard time when you were young. So I write this for all those who never got the opportunity to be "noticed" in school, which later went on to college, and institutions of higher learning and became someone.

The book is a fun book for children and adults alike to enjoy. "Playgound Beyond" was inspired by working in a museum as a security guard. I got a chance to see all the museum exhibits and fell in love with all of the art coming through the door. It started in 2000 when the Salvador Dali exhibit was at the Hirshhorn museum and sculpture garden. I read how surrealist artists detach their minds to create art by using their subconscious minds. I thought to use that technique in writing my poetry. The exhibition HC Westermann that came to the Hirshhorn museum in 2002 started to influence my way of thinking as well. I love how the existential movement was so in tune with the world around them and thought how I can use that technique in writing my poetry. But the one that got me actively writing in a surreal existential matter was a French surrealist painter by the name of Yves Tanguy. He taught me to write as though you were writing beneath your direct thoughts without effort being applied into thinking. It helped me to relax more so my thoughts come easy to write. I wrote my first thirteen poems before I had a writers block. It took me three years before I picked it back up and finished my book in 2005. Whimsical thinking also helped in my writing by being more relaxed, so I introduced that in my writing. So have some fun and enjoy my work.

Sacred Song And The Pennsylvania Dutch written by Daniel Jay Grimminger and has been published by University Rochester Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with History categories.

Sheds light on the process of cultural change that occurred over the course of a century or more in the majority of Pennsylvania German communities and churches. The Pennsylvania Dutch comprised the largest single ethnic group in the early American Republic of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Yet like other ethnic minorities in early America, they struggled to maintain their own distinct ethnic identity in everything that they did. Eventually their German Lutheran and Reformed customs and folkways gave way to Anglo-American pressure. The tune and chorale books printed for use in Pennsylvania Dutch churches document this gradual process of Americanization, including notable moments of resistance to change. Daniel Grimminger's Sacred Song and the Pennsylvania Dutch is the only in-depth study of the shifting identity of the Pennsylvania Dutch as manifested in their music. Through a closer examination of music sources, folk art, and historical contexts, this interdisciplinary study sheds light on the process of cultural change that occurred over the course of a century or more in the majority of Pennsylvania German communities and churches. Grimminger's book also provides a model with which to view all ethnic enclaves, in America and elsewhere, andthe ways in which loyalties can shift as a group becomes part of a larger cultural fabric. Daniel Grimminger holds a doctorate in sacred music and choral conducting, as well as a PhD in musicology. He also holds a masterof theological studies degree and is a clergyman in the North American Lutheran Church. Grimminger teaches at Kent State University and is the pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Millersburg, Holmes County, Ohio.
