¿La abolición de la explotación a escala mundial es una causa perdida? ¿El pensamiento utópico representa una amenaza real para la concentración del poder y el statu quo o ha perdido todo su potencial transformador? ¿El historicismo, la crítica ideológica y la estética aplicados a una heterogeneidad de obras artísticas pueden ayudarnos a entender el inconsciente político de cada clase social? Para alcanzar propuestas convincentes con las que resolver estas cuestiones es necesario generar una praxis como la realizada por uno de los críticos estadounidenses más respetados e infl uyentes de los últimos treinta años, Fredric Jameson (Cleveland, 1934). Jameson ha desarrollado un proyecto de transformación de la realidad basado en un entendimiento totalizador de la cultura, facilitando el desciframiento de los procesos productivos que dominan el curso de la historia y que condicionan tanto el progreso ético de las sociedades como el control normativo ejercido por el Estado social. Esta obra magna escrita por el pensador González Pascual nos presenta un análisis innovador con el que aprender el método dialéctico desarrollado por Jameson: una herramienta efi caz para iluminar el funcionamiento de los resortes psíquicos, antropológicos y económicos que construyen la identidad del sujeto en el capitalismo tardío, permitiendo la extracción de conexiones cognitivas ocultas en los textos culturales contemporáneos, portadoras de rasgos estructuradores de otros períodos históricos, y visibilizando la relación ideológica entre los signifi cados de la producción artística, la evolución en los usos del lenguaje y las teorías estéticas y políticas de mayor infl uencia a lo largo de diferentes épocas. Para González Pascual el desafío no se limita a un análisis de las propuestas de Jameson, sino que enriquece la interpretación de este sobre los sistemas de pensamiento de Vico, Spinoza, Hegel, Marx, Engels, Benjamin, Adorno, Bloch, Althusser, Sartre, etc. Además, el autor español ha aplicado el método jamesoniano para construir un análisis pluridisciplinar de numerosos textos literarios, fi losófi cos y cinematográfi cos. Esta obra contribuye al estudio de nuestro tiempo resucitando desde el epicentro de la posmodernidad los sueños utópicos que supusieron dentro de cada coyuntura histórica las revoluciones del cristianismo, el Renacimiento, el protestantismo, el capitalismo moderno y la Ilustración.
