The intensity of global competition and ever-increasing economic uncertainties has led organizations to search for more efficient and effective ways to manage their business operations. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been widely used as a conceptually simple yet powerful tool for evaluating organizational productivity and performance. Fuzzy DEA (FDEA) is a promising extension of the conventional DEA proposed for dealing with imprecise and ambiguous data in performance measurement problems. This book is the first volume in the literature to present the state-of-the-art developments and applications of FDEA. It is designed for students, educators, researchers, consultants and practicing managers in business, industry, and government with a basic understanding of the DEA and fuzzy logic concepts.

The foremost broadly utilized strategy for the valuation of the overall performance of a set of identical decision-making units (DMUs) that use analogous sources to yield related outputs is data envelopment analysis (DEA). However, the witnessed values of the symmetry or asymmetry of different types of information in real-world applications are sometimes inaccurate, ambiguous, inadequate, and inconsistent, so overlooking these conditions may lead to erroneous decision-making. Neutrosophic set theory can handle these occasions of data and makes an imitation of the decision-making procedure with the aid of thinking about all perspectives of the decision. In this paper, we introduce a model of DEA in the context of neutrosophic sets and sketch an innovative process to solve it. Furthermore, we deal with the problem of healthcare system evaluation with inconsistent, indeterminate, and incomplete information using the new model. The triangular single-valued neutrosophic numbers are also employed to deal with the mentioned data, and the proposed method is utilized in the assessment of 13 hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences of Iran. The results exhibit the usefulness of the suggested approach and point out that the model has practical outcomes for decision-makers.

Fuzzy Data Warehousing For Performance Measurement written by Daniel Fasel and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-08 with Business & Economics categories.

The numeric values retrieved from a data warehouse may be difficult for business users to interpret, and may even be interpreted incorrectly. Therefore, in order to better understand numeric values, business users may require an interpretation in meaningful, non-numeric terms. However, if the transition between non-numeric terms is crisp, true values cannot be measured and a smooth transition between classes may no longer be possible. This book addresses this problem by presenting a fuzzy classification-based approach for a data warehouses. Moreover, it introduces a modeling approach for fuzzy data warehouses that makes it possible to integrate fuzzy linguistic variables in a meta-table structure. The essence of this structure is that fuzzy concepts can be integrated into the dimensions and facts of an existing classical data warehouse without affecting its core. This allows a simultaneous analysis, both fuzzy and crisp. A case study of a movie rental company underlines and exemplifies the proposed approach.

"From the Foreword: " 'This book is an excellent tool for practitioners who are interested in the merits and pitfalls of the technique . (The author's) research is an example of inventiveness, diligence and accuracy' - "Freerk A. Lootsma, Delft Institute of Technology " Data envelopment Analysis is a Mathematical Programme for measuring performance efficiency of organizational units. The organizational units, termed as decision-making units (DMU) can be of any kind: manufacturing units, a set of schools, banks, hospitals, power plants, police stations, prisons, a set of firms etc. DEA has been unsuccessfully applied to measure the performance efficiency of these different kinds of DMUs which share a common characteristic - that they are non-profit organization where measurement of performance efficiency is difficult. DEA has been employed for assessing the relative performance of a set of firms that use a variety of identical inputs-say in the case of a school: quality of students, teachers, grants etc., -to produce a variety of identical outputs-number of students who pass the final year, average grades obtained by the students in the final year etc. DEA assumes the performance of the DMUs by using the concepts of efficiency or productivity which is measured as the ratio of total outputs to total inputs. Also, the efficiencies estimated are relative to the best performing DMU or DMUs. The best performing DMU is given a score of 100% and the performance of other DMUs vary between 0 -100%."

Organizations can use the valuable tool of data envelopment analysis (DEA) to make informed decisions on developing successful strategies, setting specific goals, and identifying underperforming activities to improve the output or outcome of performance measurement. The Handbook of Research on Strategic Performance Management and Measurement Using Data Envelopment Analysis highlights the advantages of using DEA as a tool to improve business performance and identify sources of inefficiency in public and private organizations. These recently developed theories and applications of DEA will be useful for policymakers, managers, and practitioners in the areas of sustainable development of our society including environment, agriculture, finance, and higher education sectors.
