Both interesting and disturbing, learn all about the alleged attempt to murder James I and VI before the became King of England, the plots at court involving 'poisoned tarts', to the marriage court scandal of George III. 'There is nothing new under the sun', a phrase ascribed originally to King Solomon, applies to the present book, with echoes of 'modern' themes exposing royal scandal, sex, corruption, political absolutism - attempted - religious controversy, danger of mass-terrorism, murder and 'suspicious' deaths, 'fake news' and international threat from superpowers. And all focusing on inside stories which today would be 'investigative journalism' with huge popular media interest. This is history for both specialists and, especially, for general readers, given media interest, including TV and film coverage in 'exciting' popular history, as set out by the author. The earlier 'Royal Mysteries' in the series were full of tragedy, suffering, pathos, heroism and romance, but the present set are equally interesting and disturbing and revisionist. These include the alleged attempt to murder James I and VI before the became King of England; the scandal at court involving 'poisoned tarts', James' 'toy-boy', and a subsequent murder trial. And the following questions and mysteries: did Charles II really promise to convert to Catholicism to please Louis XIV; did Charles marry his mistress Lucy Walter, mother of rebel Duke of Monmouth; was James II and VII an enlightened religious reformer or trying to convert England to Catholicism - the religion of European superpowers; did George I 'disappear' (a 'hit' in modern terms) his divorced wife's lover before ascending the English throne; did the unpopular Duke of Cumberland murder his gay lover; did the hugely admired 'respectable' George III, devoted husband and father, marry a middle-class Quaker woman?

What was it like growing up during the Cold War? What can childhood memories tell us about state socialism and its aftermath? How can these intimate memories complicate history and redefine possible futures? These questions are at the heart of the (An)Archive: Childhood, Memory, and the Cold War. This edited collection stems from a collaboration between academics and artists who came together to collectively remember their own experiences of growing up on both sides of the ‘Iron Curtain’. Looking beyond official historical archives, the book gathers memories that have been erased or forgotten, delegitimized or essentialized, or, at best, reinterpreted nostalgically within the dominant frameworks of the East-West divide. And it reassembles and (re)stores these childhood memories in a form of an ‘anarchive’: a site for merging, mixing, connecting, but also juxtaposing personal experiences, public memory, political rhetoric, places, times, and artifacts. These acts and arts of collective remembering tell about possible futures―and the past’s futures―what life during the Cold War might have been but also what it has become. (An)Archive will be of particular interest to scholars in a variety of fields, but particularly to artists, educators, historians, social scientists, and others working with memory methodologies that range from collective biography to oral history, (auto)biography, autoethnography, and archives.

“It began around the age of thirty, when I noticed an almost constant dissatisfaction arising within. I had at that point, a loving family, friends, home, health, an occupation, and all the requirements of living the so-called good life. Why, I asked myself, besides the rare flashes of momentary relief and satisfaction, am I basically unhappy and experiencing some form of suffering most of the time? As I observed and questioned others around me, they too privately admitted to be unhappy and dissatisfied, which brought up a most important question: What is It that prevents the state of happiness from being self-realized? Over the years I came to understand that it is indeed possible to free and liberate yourself from what is commonly unnoticed by most, and that is your own falsely created identity that you call “self”. I came to realize that you are always- already established in unity with Being itself and can never possibly be separated from its source. Your part? Apply the way of self-realizing this eternal and ever- present relationship of Oneness with Reality itself, and surrender to its self-existing and self-radiant nature of blissful happiness as your own real and true self-state.”

An interesting volume presenting the papers collected for the Festschrift "Paradoxes in Modern Geology" in honor of Professor Ken Jinghwa Hsu on the occasion of his 70th birthday.Paradox, as defined in a dictionary, is a statement contrary to accepted opinion. That a broad discussion of paradoxes is fruitful for the advancement of science in general, and geosciences in particular, has been amply demonstrated by Professor Hsu throughout his distinguished career. Not only has he propelled the geoscience community forward with his controversial statements, a number of his former students, who are currently in key positions at universities and in industry, are influencing in a similar open minded way the present day thinking. The wide scope this reasoning encompasses is demonstrated by the contributions to this book, delineating paradoxes and problems in the fields of tectonics, basic and applied geosciences, petrology, paleoceanography, paleoclimatology and paleogeography, kinematics and modelling.

This compelling and riveting book is more than a memoir and more than a self-help prescription--Reveal illuminates the fracture that occurs during deep trauma, the outdated beliefs that keep us feeling stuck, and the habitual patterns that become our map of navigating the world. Then, through the tears of the author's own eyes, she shows us the courageous and exhilarating path of integration, transformation, and a return to wholeness. After years of facilitating her own clients in their transformation, this renowned healer, teacher, and author boldly shares her own journey with you. And it is not to be missed. What others are saying: “I was hooked from the first paragraph. Harmony’s courageous sharing of her vulnerabilities and triumphs on the journey toward authenticity, wisdom, and happiness will inspire readers to live in alignment with their true natures.”~Sue Patton Thoele, author of The Courage to Be Yourself, The Mindful Woman, and several others “Harmony Kwiker’s story is a modern day he-she-roe’s journey, the journey of how she learned to give voice to her deepest truth and reclaim her essential self. I love how nothing is taboo in this magnificent work. I urge you to get this book and read it all the way through as an act of self-care. I believe you’ll be much wiser for taking this journey with this gifted author.”~Susan Campbell, Ph.D., author of Getting Real, Truth in Dating, and Five-Minute Relationship Repair From the back cover: “All of this pain has a purpose,” 6-year-old Harmony heard from deep within as she practiced transcendental meditation for the first time. Feeling relieved by these words of hope, she knew instantly that she wanted to learn how to bring this message to life. With progressive healers as parents, Harmony was nurtured to be a healer herself. However, the painful secrets hidden beneath the façade of having well-loved healers as parents kept Harmony locked in a pattern of wounding and suffering. Conditioned to be accommodating and agreeable, Harmony thought that being nice would earn her love and approval, but instead she felt broken and lonely. With low self-esteem and unhealed trauma, she allowed herself to be victimized by men repeatedly - keeping her pain hidden away and never speaking her truth. As she set out on a long healing journey, she learned how to take her power back from her trauma and conditioning so that she could claim her healthy feminine expression - tender, powerful, and sovereign. Now a successful healer who empowers others to live in alignment with their True Self, Harmony has learned from her long journey as a wounded healer how to embody the wholeness that is her birthright and to live from this deeper place. In this vulnerable self-help memoir, she shares with you her powerful story of healing and awakening.
