Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Sport - Sportökonomie, Sportmanagement, Note: 1,3, Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Fachhochschule Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel , Veranstaltung: Führung in Dienstleistungsunternehmen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Seit 1990 ist Billy Beane im Management der Oakland Athletics (A‘s) aus der Major League Baseball (MLB), seit 1997 ist er deren General Manager. Mit einem der kleinsten Budgets der Liga stellt Beane seine Mannschaften Jahr für Jahr zusammen, die erfolgreich und konstant um die Play-Offs mitspielen. Dabei wählt er Spieler aus, die nach bekannten Statistiken mittelmäßig zu sein scheinen, jedoch gemäß sogenannter sabermetrics überdurchschnittlich zum Erfolg der Mannschaft beitragen. Bei sabermetrics handelt es sich um "the search for objective knowledge about baseball", sinngemäß im Deutschen der Suche nach objektiviertem Wissen über Baseball. Trotz signifikanter finanzieller Unterlegenheit gelang es den A‘s zum Beispiel zwischen den Jahren 2000 und 2003 stets die Play-Offs zu erreichen. Dort unterlagen die A‘s zwar den New York Yankees zwei- und den Boston Red Sox einmal knapp, jedoch hatten diese Teams ein drei- bis vierfach höheres Budget für ihre Spielerabteilung zur Verfügung als die Athletics. Die genannten Jahre zwischen 2000 und 2003 werden heute als Moneyball Years bezeichnet und dienten dem Buch-Bestseller „Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game“ aus dem Jahr 2003 von Michael Lewis sowie dem Hollywood-Film „Moneyball“ mit Brad Pitt und Philip Seymour Hoffman in den Hauptrollen 2011 als Grundlage. Diese Form der unkonventionellen Bewertung von Sportlern entwickelte sich daraufhin weiter und ist nun auch in anderen Sportarten, wie zum Beispiel im Eishockey, anzutreffen. In der Wirtschaft wird schon seit Jahrzehnten ein ähnliches Prinzip bei der Personalauswahl angewandt: die Eignungsdiagnostik. Diese Methode war bislang noch frei von softwaregestützten Computerprogrammen. Doch dies scheint, so zeigen jüngste Entwicklungen, der Geschichte anzugehören.

Als Gedankenanstoß für diese Arbeit dienten die wahren Begebenheiten um den Manager des US-Amerikanischen Baseball-Teams Oakland Athletics, Billy Beane, der mit einem deutlich kleineren Budget als andere Mannschaften in drei aufeinanderfolgenden Saisons die Playoffs erreichen konnte. Dies wurde ihm durch sog. Sabermetrics ("the search for objective knowledge about baseball") ermöglicht, bei dem nach bekannten Statistiken eher mittelmäßig scheinende Spieler eingekauft wurden, aber essenziell für das gute Abschneiden der Mannschaft waren. Diese Form der unkonventionellen Bewertung von Sportlern entwickelte sich daraufhin weiter und ist nun auch in anderen Sportarten wie zum Beispiel im Eishockey anzutreffen. Ziel der vorliegenden Studie ist es, auf Basis von quantitativen Daten eine ganzheitliche Methode zu entwickeln, die auch deutschen Profi-Sportvereinen im unternehmerischen Bereich die Personalauswahl erleichtern soll.
