The diversity of interconnected cultures on a bounded planet requires more shared orientations. The humanities and politics have to face fundamental questions. What does a humanism look like that does not move too rapidly to universalize the views and historical experiences of the European or American world? How can we conceive of globality as a new entity without playing unity and diversity off against one another? Does a world culture that is becoming ever closely related in fact need common values or only rules of human exchange? How can we succeed at civilizing an ever-present ethnocentrism? How do we keep the terms "culture" and "humanity" from being misused as weapons in identity wars? Any realistic cosmopolitanism must proceed from an understanding of humankind as one entity without requiring us to re-design cultures to fit on with some sort of global template. Some of the key questions in employment relations, comparative business, and globalization revolve around the extent to which businesses embody a national business system, and what happens when these employment models are exported to other national settings. By exploring the variety of ways in which US multinationals deal with these issues, and their reception, when operating in Europe, Phil Almond, Anthony Ferner, and their contributors examine the interaction between globalization and national 'Varieties of Capitalism'. Using the findings of a four-year international exploration of the management of employment relations in US multinationals in the UK, Germany, Ireland, and Spain, this book examines what is distinctively 'American' about these companies, and how this notion is exported. The process is shown to be one that is not a technical managerial one, but one that is highly political, and 'negotiated', in which groups and individuals at different levels within the company try to influence the terms of transfer. Akademische Arbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Führung und Personal - Sonstiges, Note: 2,0, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zu Beginn dieser Arbeit wird zunächst der Begriff ‚Diversity’ dargestellt und somit eine Grundlage für die weiteren Ausführungen geschaffen. Daran anschließend erfolgt die detaillierte Vorstellung des Diversity Managementkonzeptes. Dies gestaltet sich durchaus als schwieriges Unterfangen, da zu diesem Konzept kein zentrales Buch eines Erfinders oder Begründers vorliegt, auf das man sich berufen könnte und auch die Forschungsarbeiten zu diesem Thema sich permanent weiterentwickeln (Vedder 2006: 10). Daher wird es nur möglich sein den Kern des Konzeptes, der sich auf die etablierten Modelle, Instrumente und Definitionen stützt, vorzustellen. Nachdem kurz auf die Entstehungsgeschichte des Konzeptes (Abschnitt 1.3) in seinem Ursprungsland (den USA) eingegangen wird, erfolgt die Darstellung der Ziele (Abschnitt 2.2), sowie der Chancen und Risiken (Abschnitt 2.3) die mit Diversity Management verbunden sind. Um den Bezug zum Thema dieser Arbeit zu wahren wird hierbei verstärkt auf die Einführung und Umsetzungsmethoden des Konzeptes eingegangen (Kapitel 3). Organisationen weltweit sehen sich momentan einem komplexen ökonomischen und gesellschaftlichen Wandel ausgesetzt. Begleitet werden diese Entwicklungen von einem demographischen Wandel, der vor allem in den westlichen Industriestaaten zu einer alternden Bevölkerung führt. Das Resultat dieser Entwicklungen ist eine zunehmende Heterogenität und Vielfalt, sowohl innerhalb der Organisation als auch in ihrem Umfeld. Dies bedeutet also veränderte Rahmenbedingungen, denen Unternehmen ausgeliefert sind und innerhalb derer sie agieren müssen. Aus diesem Grund wandten sich zu dieser Zeit immer mehr Unternehmen dem Konzept des Diversity Management zu und eine bis heute andauernde Erfolgsgeschichte dieses Konzeptes in den USA begann. Denn aufbauend auf der Prämisse, dass Vielfalt, also ‚Diversity’, nicht ein Problem darstellt sondern als Ressource betrachtet werden kann, die auch ökonomische Vorteile in sich birgt, entwickelte sich ein Konzept, welches die veränderten Rahmenbedingungen als Chance begreift.
