Creative Compromise written by William G. Harley and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This is William G. Harley's personal account of the process that produced the MacBride Commission reportóUNESCO's International Commission for Study of Communication Problems. Harley was present at all Commission meetings; he had the complete collection of reports he had sent back to the U.S. State Department. Furthermore, he had a file of relevant personal notes, memos, and letters, a comprehensive collection unique in all the world. The author's account not only tells how international agencies function, for better or worse, but it also sketches the personalities involved in negotiating international communication problems. Harley's reports of the meetings are fascinating exercises in group dynamics which capture the substance and spirit of the debates. The sixteen experts appointed in 1977 by UNESCO Director-General, Amadou Mahtar M'Bow, were responsible for preparing a report that would remedy issues such as Third World hopes for a new world information order and the flow of international information. It was a conscientious effort to reach a consensus in the study of these relations between and within nations and Harley's Creative Compromise affords the reader insights into the complexity of modern communications and their interrelationships with the economic, cultural, and social aspects of our interdependent world.

Normed Children written by Erik Schneider and has been published by transcript Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-30 with Social Science categories.

Gender- and sex-related norms have an impact on us from the first to the last day of our lives. What are the effects of such norms on the education of children and adolescents? Conveyed via parents/family, school, and peers, they seem to be an inseparable part of human relations. After its favorable reception in German-speaking countries from 2014 onwards, this title is now available in English. The texts show that the traditional assumption of a dualistic, bipolar normativity of sex and gender leads to children being taught gender-typical behavior. The contributions in this volume explore the reasons for these practices and open the debate on the divergence between the prevailing norms and the plurality of different life plans. In addition, the book helps to disengage the topic of sex and gender from a hitherto narrowly circumscribed context of sexual orientation. The contributions point the way towards a culture of respect and mutual acceptance and show new methodological as well as theoretical approaches, e.g. by introducing the figure of the continuum, so that, in future research projects, more than just the two sexes and genders of female and male might be considered as a new normality.

The Andes written by Axel Borsdorf and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-12 with Science categories.

The Andes are attracting global interest again: they hold valuable mineral resources, tourists appreciate their great natural beauty and the diversity of indigenous cultures, climbers scale rock and ice faces, while many others are intrigued by regional political developments, such as the Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela or the almost unfettered hegemony of the neoliberal economic model in Chile. This volume is the first attempt for decades to present a complete overview of the longest mountain chain on the planet – a region of remarkable climatic, floristic and geologic diversity, where advanced civilization developed well before the arrival of the Spanish. Today the Andes continue to be characterized by their ethnic, demographic, cultural and economic diversity, as well as by the disparity of local socioeconomic groups. The Andean countries pursue a wide range of approaches to tackle the challenges of making the best use of their natural and cultural potential without damaging their ecological basis, as well as to overcome economic disparity and foster social cohesion. This book provides insights into this unique region and its most pressing issues, complemented by a wealth of pictures and comprehensive diagrams, which, in sum, help to better understand these fascinating mountains.

Teaching As A Reflective Practice written by Ian Westbury and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-06 with Education categories.

This volume presents a mix of translations of classical and modern papers from the German Didaktik tradition, newly prepared essays by German scholars and practitioners writing from within the tradition, and interpretive essays by U.S. scholars. It brings this tradition, which virtually dominated German curricular thought and teacher education until the 1960s when American curriculum theory entered Germany--and which is now experiencing a renaissance--to the English-speaking world, where it has been essentially unknown. The intent is to capture in one volume the core (at least) of the tradition of Didaktik and to communicate its potential relevance to English-language curricularists and teacher educators. It introduces a theoretical tradition which, although very different in almost every respect from those we know, offers a set of approaches that suggest ways of thinking about problems of reflection on curricular and teaching praxis (the core focus of the tradition) which the editors believe are accessible to North American readers--with appropriate "translation." These ways of thinking and related praxis are very relevant to notions such as reflective teaching and the discourse on teachers as professionals. By raising the possibility that the "new" tradition of Didaktik can be highly suggestive for thinking through issues related to a number of central ideas within contemporary discourse--and for exploring the implications of these ideas for both teacher education and for a curriculum theory appropriate to these new contexts for theorizing, this book opens up a gold mine of theoretical and practical possibilities.
