Peter De Rivo On Chronology And The Calendar written by Matthew S. Champion and has been published by Leuven University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-20 with Philosophy categories.

Critical edition of previously unpublished works by a key philosopher of the fifteenth-century Low Countries Peter de Rivo (c.1420–1499), a renowned philosopher active at the University of Leuven, is today mostly remembered for his controversial role in the quarrel over future contingents (1465–1475). Much less known are his contributions to historical chronology, in particular his attempts to determine the dates of Christ’s birth and death. In 1471, Peter made an original contribution to this long-standing discussion with his Dyalogus de temporibus Christi, which reconciles conflicting views by rewriting the history of the Jewish and Christian calendars. Later in his career, Peter tackled the issue of calendar reform in his Reformacio kalendarii Romani (1488) and engaged in a heated debate with Paul of Middelburg on the chronology of Christ. This book edits the Dyalogus and Reformacio and sets out their context and transmission in an extensive historical introduction.

Lose yourself in this moving story of a sanguine bond between sisters. Perfect for fans of Maeve Binchy, Rosamunde Pilcher and Fiona Valpy; you won't be able to put it down. 'Full of gifted, complex characters it gripped my attention to the very end.' - ***** Reader Review 'Sallis is always a really good read.' - ***** Reader Review 'I was sorry it ever finished.' - ***** Reader Review ******************************************************************************* A SPECIAL BOND BETWEEN SISTER, BUT CAN IT SURVIVE? The twins were born in war-torn Plymouth in 1944, two little girls whose parents didn't altogether want them. Their childhood as evacuee babies, then at boarding school, then living with their Aunt Maggie, made them grow up uniquely self-sufficient. They didn't need anyone else. They had each other. Miranda was the vibrant, flamboyant one, determined never to conform or be dull and conventional. Meg was quieter, more self-effacing. But Meg always knew when anything bad was happening to Miranda. As they grew up, the bond between them held - until Meg moved to Cornwall to buy a house, to paint, to fall in love. And for the first time a rift broached their special relationship. Their lives shifted - Miranda trapped into domesticity, and Meg - feeling herself betrayed - sought a new path to unexpected success. But the link was still there, in spite of all that was to happen, in spite of violence and tragedy, and finally it led to happiness that came when they had ceased to expect it...

A scientist’s vengeance propels Peter Curzon seven hundred years into the future, where he finds himself in a very mysterious world. Science has banished the need to work in order to earn money, and people only pursue activities as a vocation and by choice. But everyone is also engaged on a Great Task--constructing gigantic towers, with no discernible purpose, following the orders given to them in the temples of Ijax, a mysterious Buddha-like entity worshipped as a god. Peter alone seems immune to the influence of Ijax, and unless he can penetrate to the root of the mystery, mankind appears to be doomed. Another grand sci-fi adventure from the golden age.
