I think it’s fair to say I was rewarded, praised, applauded, more than most fathers.Peter Collie is adrift in the wake of his wife’s death. His attempts to understand the turn his life has taken lead him back to the past, to dismaying events on an Amsterdam houseboat in the seventies, returning to New Zealand and meeting Moira, an amateur painter who carried secrets of her own, and to a trip to Europe years later with his family. An unexpected revelation forces Peter to navigate anew his roles as a husband, father and son.Set in Wellington after the fall of the Twin Towers, and traversing London, Europe, the Indian subcontinent, The New Ships is a mesmerising book of blood-ties that stretch across borders. A novel of acute moral choices, it is a rich and compelling meditation on what it means to act, or to fail to act.

I want what she's having is a powerful business book to inspire, challenge and prove that it's not the size of the marketing budget, but what you do with it that counts. Naomi Simson, the creator of RedBalloon Days, the highly successful trans-Tasman experience gift company, openly shares what she has learned on leadership, marketing, creating unbreakable customer relationships and inspiring people. From her 20 years' experience in Apple, IBM, Ansett and KPMG, and then running her own show, Naomi reveals what gets people talking and why people buy. This book debunks the common business myth that marketing resides with marketers alone, revealing, through various case studies and firsthand accounts, that customers are the real marketers. In an honest and candid style, this business book will motivate and equip you to employ a few key steps and strategies which could transform the return on your marketing investment no matter what role you have within an organisation.

The People Are Not There written by David Taylor and has been published by Birlinn Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-08-04 with History categories.

Badenoch today is a landscape of empty glens and ruined settlements, but it was not always so. This book examines the transformative events that shaped the region's destiny: climate and market forces, hunger and relief measures, sheep farms and sporting estates, agricultural improvement and proprietorial greed, and the evolution of clanship. Although this is an intensely localised study, the dramatic nature of change is explored against the wider context of events not just across the Highlands, but also within the British state and its global empire. Badenoch's journey moves from the relative prosperity of the Napoleonic Wars into the terrible post-war destitution that devastated peasant, tacksman and Duke of Gordon alike. Estate reform and 'improvement' gradually brought a degree of economic and social stability, but inevitably resulted in depopulation as people were forced off the land to seek refuge in the impoverished 'planned villages' or to abandon their Gaelic homeland for life in the Lowlands. For those with the means, however, emigration provided lucrative opportunities unimaginable at home. Through extensive use of documentary evidence, much of it previously unseen, David Taylor paints an intimate portrait of the historically neglected region of Badenoch – one that provides a compelling new perspective on Highland history.

Sergeant Gander written by Robyn Walker and has been published by Dundurn this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-14 with Young Adult Nonfiction categories.

Sergeant Gander is a fascinating account of the Royal Rifles of Canadas canine mascot, and his devotion to duty demonstrated during the Battle of Hong Kong in the Second World War. Armed only with his formidable size, an intimidating set of teeth, and a protective instinct, Gander rought alongside his fellow Canadian soldiers. As the Royal Rifles’ position become more precarious, the men were forced to retreat into the hills of Hong Kong, and it was here that a group of wounded Canadians, threatened by a live grenade, came to fully appreciate the loyalty of Gander. For his service in battle, Sergeant Gander was awarded the Dickin Medal, the animal equivalent to the Victoria Cross for humans. This honour is dedicated to animals displaying gallantry and devotion to duty while under any control of the armed forces. Sergeant Gander is the nineteenth dog to receive this medal and the first Canadian canine to do so.
