Peter Handke written by Rolf G. Renner and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-13 with Literary Criticism categories.

The volume presents Handke's works from Hornissen (1966) to Das zweite Schwert (2020) in individual analyses and at the same time opens up overarching orientations of Handke's writing. The autoreflexive traces that characterise the author's experimental early work are perpetuated in a middle phase by a return to traditional forms of epic narrative and literary models that is philosophically influenced. In the late work, these approaches give rise to a comprehensive poetology of narrative that links all the texts together. In the process, previously developed motifs are condensed into overarching thematic complexes. Alongside the reality of war, the relationship between image and writing, text and film, social and media developments of modernity come to the fore. The reference of Handke's texts to images of the painterly tradition and visual strategies of his writing are given special weight. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Peter Handke by Rolf G. Renner, published by Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

During the 1970s the todays Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung, BMBWF) supported the founding of the Center for Austrian Studies at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and the Austrian Chair at Stanford University in California. These foundings were the initial incentives for the worldwide 'spreading' of similar institutions; currently nine Centers for Austrian and Central European Studies exist in seven states on three continents. The funding of the Ministry enables to connect senior with young scholars, to help young PhD students, to participate and to benefit from the scientific connection of experienced researchers, and to get in touch with the national scientific community by 'sniffing scientific air', as the Austrian like to say. Furthermore, it aims to avoid prejudices, and to spread a better understanding and knowledge about Austria and Central Europe by promoting scientific exchange. This volume contains the annual reports (2017/2018) of the Center Director's and the papers of their PhD students, which discuss various topics on mostly (East-)Central European History from various perspectives and in different centuries.

The Novel And Europe written by Andrew Hammond and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-05 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book examines the ways in which fiction has addressed the continent since the Second World War. Drawing on novelists from Europe and elsewhere, the volume analyzes the literary response to seven dominant concerns (ideas of Europe, conflict, borders, empire, unification, migration, and marginalization), offering a ground-breaking study of how modern and contemporary writers have participated in the European debate. The sixteen essays view the chosen writers, not as representatives of national literatures, but as participants in transcontinental discussion that has occurred across borders, cultures, and languages. In doing so, the contributors raise questions about the forms of power operating across and radiating from Europe, challenging both the institutionalized divisions of the Cold War and the triumphalist narrative of continental unity currently being written in Brussels.

In Literature for Europe? leading scholars from around Europe reflect on the role played by literature, and by the study of literature, in the constant re-negotiation and re-construction of cultural identities in Europe implied by the accession to the European Union, in the early years of the twenty-first century, of fifteen new member states, with the accession of a number of Balkan states impending, and Turkey waiting in the wings, while at the same time transatlantic relations of the EU to the USA are hotly debated, in politics as in culture, China and India awake as economic giants, and globalization is upon us. At the same time, two of the earliest signatories to the treaties eventually leading to the European Union rejected a proposal for a European Constitution, and linguistic, religious, and ethnic dividing lines show even in some of Europe’s oldest nation states. How do literary texts, genres, and forms, thinking about them and teaching them, respond to and shape ongoing processes of European self-understanding in our era of globalization? The volume seeks to answer these questions by charting key developments in a number of fields crucial to the emergence of a European common literary “space”: literature and cultural value systems, literature and cultural memory, literary history, translation, the impact of the new media and the information age on matters of literature and identity, and the impact of the postcolonial. Literature for Europe? is a thought-provoking tour d’horizon of cutting-edge developments in the relationship between literary studies and “the matter of Europe,” and suggesting an exciting agenda for literary studies in Europe. It will be of interest to everyone working in European studies and/or European literature.

Since his now famous appearance on the literary stage in 1968 novelist, playwright and poet, Peter Handke has remained on the forefront of the literary vanguard, having earned the praise and recognition of critics in Europe and North America alike. In fact, in a review essay of September 2000, The New York Review of Books called him the premier prose stylist in the German language, and one of post-war Europe's most recognisable literary figures. Since the publication of his early theatrical works, Handke has gone on to publish over twenty-five prose novels, as well as additional works for the theatre, collections of poetry, diaries and essays. His works have ranged in style from the French influenced nouveau roman of the late 1960s to works characteristic of the New Subjectivity movement in West Germany in the 1970s, while his novels and stories of the 1980s and 1990s exhibited a new-found appreciation for narrative and issues of storytelling. He has also published a series of polemical essays on the war in Yugoslavia which have been criticised severely by scholars and intellectuals. has written, as well as on the thematic aspects of his work.
