One of America's leading landscape architects, Peter Walker has created a variety of significant landscapes worldwide, including joint projects with architects I. M. Pei, Norman Foster, and Renzo Piano. Walker's broad field of practice includes urban design and planning and the creation of landscapes ranging in size from parks and university campuses to corporate headquarters, plazas, and private gardens. Peter Walker and Partners / Nasher Sculpture Center Garden focuses on his garden in Dallas, Texas, a set of "outdoor galleries" showcasing the Nasher collection of modern and contemporary sculpture. A museum without a roof, the garden, with its subtle balance of art and nature, is also a serene urban park, whose beauty perfectly complements Renzo Piano's design for the center. Peter Walker's informative sketches, drawings, and plans, along with photographs of the final design, reveal the delicate balance between art, culture, and context at the heart of the Nasher Foundation Sculpture Garden. Source Books in Landscape Architecture, produced in collaboration with the Knowlton School of Architecture at Ohio State University, provide detailed documentation of important new projects.

Sculpture And The Museum written by ChristopherR. Marshall and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Art categories.

Sculpture and the Museum is the first in-depth examination of the varying roles and meanings assigned to sculpture in museums and galleries during the modern period, from neo-classical to contemporary art practice. It considers a rich array of curatorial strategies and settings in order to examine the many reasons why sculpture has enjoyed a position of such considerable importance - and complexity - within the institutional framework of the museum and how changes to the museum have altered, in turn, the ways that we perceive the sculpture within it. In particular, the contributors consider the complex issue of how best to display sculpture across different periods and according to varying curatorial philosophies. Sculptors discussed include Canova, Rodin, Henry Moore, Flaxman and contemporary artists such as Rebecca Horn, Rachel Whiteread, Mark Dion and Olafur Eliasson, with a variety of museums in America, Canada and Europe presented as case studies. Underlying all of these discussions is a concern to chart the critical importance of the acquisition, placement and display of sculpture in museums and to explore the importance of sculptures as a forum for the expression of programmatic statements of power, prestige and the museum's own sense of itself in relation to its audiences and its broader institutional aspirations.

Landscape Architecture Criticism written by Jacky Bowring and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-29 with Architecture categories.

Landscape Architecture Criticism offers techniques, perspectives and theories which relate to landscape architecture, a field very different from the more well-known domains of art and architectural criticism. Throughout the book, Bowring delves into questions such as, how do we know if built or unbuilt works of landscape architecture are successful? What strategies are used to measure the success or failure, and by whom? Does design criticism only come in written form? It brings together diverse perspectives on criticism in landscape architecture, establishing a substantial point of reference for approaching design critique, exploring how criticism developed within the discipline. Beginning with an introductory overview to set the framework, the book then moves on to historical perspectives, the purpose of critique, theoretical positions ranging from aesthetics, to politics and experience, unbuilt projects, techniques, and communication. Written for professionals and academics, as well as for students and instructors in landscape architecture, it includes strategies, diagrams, matrices, and full colour illustrations to prompt discussion and provide a basis for exploring design critique.
