In dieser Arbeit werden, ausgehend von der pflegerischen Praxis, wesentliche Anforderungen an die Begleitung von Menschen mit Demenz formuliert und diskutiert. Darauf aufbauend wird ein Untersuchungsinstrument zur Evaluation von pflegetheoretischen Konzepten für die Begleitung von Menschen mit Demenz entwickelt. Exemplarisch werden die beiden theoretischen Ansätze, die in Deutschland die größte Verbreitung finden, untersucht und bewertet: die Validation nach Feil und das Psychobiographische Pflegemodell nach Böhm. Entgegen den durch die Akzeptanz in der Praxis geweckten Erwartungen wird im Ergebnis deutlich, dass beide Konzepte sowohl aus wissenschaftlicher, als auch aus moralphilosophischer Sicht sehr fragwürdig sind.
