The Guide has been written primarily for students of GCE A Level English Literature as specified by EDEXCEL in the post-2015 syllabus (9ET0). It addresses the requirement to study, under Component 3: Poetry, one text from a prescribed list, namely The Movement Poet: Philip Larkin: The Less Deceived. The poems are explored individually, with links and connections between them drawn as appropriate. The format of each exploration is similar:*An explanation of key features of the poem that require contextual knowledge or illustration and the relationship between the text and its context. *A summary of the key themes or ideas within the poems*A brief summary of the metric form, rhyme scheme or other structural features, related to the theme*A "walk-through" (or explication) of the poem, ensuring that what is happening in the poem is understood, how the rhythm and rhyme contribute to meaning, an explanation of the meaning of words which may be unfamiliar and an exploration of language and imagery. In addition, there is a section on Rhythm in English verse which explains the common metric forms.

English Romantic Verse written by David Wright and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1973-08-30 with Poetry categories.

English Romantic poetry from its beginnings and its flowering to the first signs of its decadence. Nearly all the famous piéces de résistance will be found here - 'Intimations of Immortality', 'The Ancient Mariner', 'The Tyger', excerpts from 'Don Juan' - as well as some less familiar poems. As far as possible the poets are arranged in chronological order, and their poems in order of composition, beginning with eighteenth-century precursors such as Gray, Cowper, Burns and Chatterton. Naturally most space has been given over to the major Romantics - Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley, Clare and Keats - although their successors, poets such as Beddoes and Poe, are included too, as well as early poems by Tennyson and Browning. In an excellent introduction David Wright discusses the Romantics as a historical phenomenon, and points out their central ideals and themes.

Of Mutability written by Jo Shapcott and has been published by Faber & Faber this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08-19 with Poetry categories.

Jo Shapcott's award-winning first three collections, gathered in Her Book: Poems 1988-1998, revealed her to be a writer of ingenuous, politically acute and provocative poetry, and rightly earned her a reputation as one of the most original and daring voices of her generation. In Of Mutability, Shapcott is found writing at her most memorable and bold. In a series of poems that explore the nature of change - in the body and the natural world, and in the shifting relationships between people - these poems look freshly but squarely at mortality. By turns grave and playful, arresting and witty, the poems in Of Mutability celebrate each waking moment as though it might be the last, and in so doing restore wonder to the to the smallest of encounters.

"Frank Ormsby's new collection travels among places strange and familiar: from the shaping memories of an up bringing in rural County Fermanagh, to a Belfast reinventing itself in a new century and the exhilarating novelty of America." "In the first part of Fireflies Ormsby explores the past and vibrant present of an area of New York State which he has visited for the past twelve years. It remains to him as elusive as the 'fugitive selves' of the fireflies of the title. The latter part of the book engages with the poet's experience of his native Northern Ireland - the sour legacy of the Troubles, the dynamics of a community extending and remaking itself." --Book Jacket.

Rain written by Don Paterson and has been published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-09 with Poetry categories.

In this, his first volume of original verse since the award-winning Landing Light, Don Paterson is found writing at his most memorable and direct. In an assembly of masterful lyrics and monologues, he conjures a series of fables and charms that serve both to expose us to the unsettling forces within the world and to offer some protection against them. Whether outwardly elemental in their address or more personal in their direction, these poems—addressed to the rain and the sea, to his young sons or beloved friends—never shy from their inquiry into truth and lie, embracing everything in scope from the rangy narrative to the tiny renku. Rain, which includes the winner of this year's Forward Prize for the Best Individual Poem and an extended elegy for the poet Michael Donaghy, is Paterson's most intimate and manifest collection to date.
