"In every book there is both the topic under consideration and the method of its treatment. The present work, being a theory of the inherent correlations of all processes, attempts to give correlative explanations also. It is evident that if the ultimate unit of the Relative is a permanent somewhat, conditioned by primary correlation which relates to forms and modes of changes, that this ultimate somewhat is the true permanent individuality, and that it is an individuality in some way composed of endlessly changing forms and other modes which but repeat themselves, with modifications, in an endless round or rhythm of changes. It appears that the least element of relative being must be persistently individualized. It is constitutionally indivisible and indestructible, because it is a true correlated existence"--Book. Excerpt from The Philosophy of Individuality or the One and the Many In every book there is both the topic under consideration and the method of its treatment. The present work, being a theory of the inherent correlations of all processes, attempts to give correlative explanations also. Nature's proceedings are held to be rhythmic in character, physical changes tending to return upon themselves and unprogressively to repeat their inherent cycles of changes, except when psychical gains, which wind upwards in continuous spirals, carry up the physical with them, as in all normal organization and its processes. In dealing with the complexity and multiplicity of natural phenomena, the writer has tried to follow the lead of the theory in the assumed explanations - repeatedly returning to the same themes and presenting their various aspects. This method may have many advantages, but admittedly it has the serious disadvantage of treating no one branch of the subject either consecutively or exhaustively, since every point is brought forward rather in the light of its co-ordinations than that of its intrinsic character and importance. Individuals And Individuality written by Brian John Martine and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1984-06-30 with Philosophy categories.

Individuals and Individuality criticizes Hegel’s theory of dialectic for eliminating the possibility of irreducible individuality. The argument then goes on to defend and expand Peirce’s theory of firstness, secondness, and thirdness as a more nearly adequate account of individuality. The discussion culminates with an interpretation of art as illustrating the essence of individuality. Brian Martine lays a foundation for a more complex discussion of what it means to be individual. This book provides an elegant account of the nature of the individual, without reducing it to a cluster of universals or claiming that it is a bare particular that must be acknowledged but never articulated. Martine gets in between universality and individuality in both a sensitive and responsible fashion.

Self written by Richard Sorabji and has been published by Clarendon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-09-14 with Philosophy categories.

Richard Sorabji presents a brilliant exploration of the history of our understanding of the self, which has remained elusive and mysterious throughout the spectacular development of human knowledge of the outside world. He ranges from ancient to contemporary thought, Western and Eastern, to reveal and assess the insights of a remarkable variety of thinkers. He discusses a set of topics which are at the heart of our understanding of ourselves: personal identity; memory; the importance of seeing one's life as a whole; the relation between self, intellect, will, and agency; self-awareness; the stream of consciousness; embodiment; death and survival. He rejects the view, found in various philosophical and religious writings, that the self is an illusion, and develops his own original conception of the self as essential to our ownership of our experience and our apprehension of the world.
