It is beneficial for technical personnel working in the field of microelectronics, optoelectronics, and photonics to get a good understanding of the physical foundations of modern semiconductor devices. Questions that technical personnel may ask are: How are electrons propagating in the periodic potential of a crystal lattice? What are the foundations of semiconductor heterostructure devices? How does quantum mechanics relate to semiconductor heterostructures? This book tries to answer questions such as these. The book provides a basis for the understanding of modern semiconductor devices that have dimensions in the nanometer range, that is, comparable to the electron de Broglie wavelength. For such small spatial dimensions, classical physics no longer gives a full description of physical processes. The inclusion of quantum mechanical principles becomes mandatory and provides a useful description of common physical processes in electronic, optoelectronic, and photonic devices. Chapters 1 to 11 teach the quantum‐mechanical principles, including the postulates of quantum mechanics, operators, the uncertainty principle, the Schrödinger equation, non‐periodic and periodic potentials, quantum wells, and perturbation theory. Chapters 12 to 20 apply these principles to semiconductor devices and discuss the density of states, semiconductor statistics, carrier concentrations, doping, tunneling, and aspects of heterostructure devices. The 2022 edition is a complete revision of the 2015 edition and also updates the formatting to make it easily viewable with electronic display devices.

Integrated Power Devices And Tcad Simulation written by Yue Fu and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.

From power electronics to power integrated circuits (PICs), smart power technologies, devices, and beyond, Integrated Power Devices and TCAD Simulation provides a complete picture of the power management and semiconductor industry. An essential reference for power device engineering students and professionals, the book not only describes the physics inside integrated power semiconductor devices such lateral double-diffused metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (LDMOSFETs), lateral insulated-gate bipolar transistors (LIGBTs), and super junction LDMOSFETs but also delivers a simple introduction to power management systems. Instead of abstract theoretical treatments and daunting equations, the text uses technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation examples to explain the design of integrated power semiconductor devices. It also explores next generation power devices such as gallium nitride power high electron mobility transistors (GaN power HEMTs). Including a virtual process flow for smart PIC technology as well as a hard-to-find technology development organization chart, Integrated Power Devices and TCAD Simulation gives students and junior engineers a head start in the field of power semiconductor devices while helping to fill the gap between power device engineering and power management systems.

Led Lighting written by Malvin Carl Teich and has been published by Malvin Carl Teich this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-04-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

LED Lighting is a self-contained and introductory-level book featuring a blend of theory and applications that thoroughly covers this important interdisciplinary area. Building on the underlying fields of optics, photonics, and vision science, it comprises four parts: PART I is devoted to fundamentals. The behavior of light is described in terms of rays, waves, and photons. Each of these approaches is best suited to a particular set of applications. The properties of blackbody radiation, thermal light, and incandescent light are derived and explained. The essentials of semiconductor physics are set forth, including the operation of junctions and heterojunctions, quantum wells and quantum dots, and organic and perovskite semiconductors. PART II deals with the generation of light in semiconductors, and details the operation and properties of III-V semiconductor devices (MQWLEDs & microLEDs), quantum-dot devices (QLEDs & WQLEDs), organic semiconductor devices (OLEDs, SMOLEDs, PLEDs, & WOLEDs), and perovskite devices (PeLEDs, PPeLEDs, QPeLEDs, & PeWLEDS). PART Ill focuses on vision and the perception of color, as well as on colorimetry. It delineates radiometric and photometric quantities as well as various measures of luminous efficacy and efficiency. It also elucidates the significance of commonly used LED lighting metrics, such as the color rendering index (CRI), color temperature (CT), correlated color temperature (CCT), and chromaticity diagram. PART IV is devoted to LED lighting, focusing on its history and salutary features, and on how this modern form of illumination is deployed. It describes the principal components used in LED lighting, including phosphor-conversion LEDs (PCLEDs) for generating cool- and warm-white light, chip-on-board (COB) devices, color-mixing LEDs, LED filaments, retrofit LED lamps, hybrid devices, LED luminaires, and OLED light panels. It concludes with a discussion of smart and connected lighting that reviews plant-centric lighting and highlights the roles of gamma and circadian brain rhythms in human-centric lighting. Finally, the performance metrics for traditional and LED light sources are summarized. Each chapter contains practical examples, highlighted equations, color-coded figures, and an extensive bibliography.

Physical Foundations Of The Millimeter And Submillimeter Waves Technique V 1 written by V. P. Ščestopalov and has been published by VSP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Science categories.

The developments in physics, biology and astronomy, as well as radar and communication technology, remote sensing and spectroscopy have led to a sharp increase in the investigations of electromagnetic millimeter and submillimeter waves with the lengths 10--1 and 1--0.1 mm. These volumes reflect the results of extensive research in this field and attempt to destroy stereotypes established during the long years of large-scale modeling in the millimeter and submillimeter wavelength ranges and to develop new concepts. The first volume (Open Structures) deals with the results of theoretical and experimental studies of open electrodynamic structures (open waveguides, open resonators, diffractional gratings) allowing the determination of the characteristics of various devices used in millimeter and submillimeter technology. The second volume (Sources. Element Base. Radio Systems: Novel Scientific Trends) presents the problems of creating independent units and radiosystems of the millimeter and submillimeter wavelength ranges and the justification of their physical operating principles. This includes the mechanism of generating volume waves by electron flows moving close to a grating, excitation of fields in open resonators and waveguides with inclusion, and other phenomena.

Solar Energy Conversion Systems written by Jeffrey R. S. Brownson and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-09 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Solar energy conversion requires a different mind-set from traditional energy engineering in order to assess distribution, scales of use, systems design, predictive economic models for fluctuating solar resources, and planning to address transient cycles and social adoption. Solar Energy Conversion Systems examines solar energy conversion as an integrative design process, applying systems thinking methods to a solid knowledge base for creators of solar energy systems. This approach permits different levels of access for the emerging broad audience of scientists, engineers, architects, planners, and economists. Traditional texts in solar energy engineering have often emerged from mechanical or chemical engineering fields. Instead, Solar Energy Conversion Systems approaches solar energy conversion from the perspectives of integrative design, environmental technology, sustainability science, and materials science in the wake of amazing new thin films, polymers, and glasses developed by the optoelectronics and semiconductor industries. This is a new solar text for the new generation of green job designers and developers. It's highlighted with vignettes that break down solar conversion into useful stories and provides common points of reference, as well as techniques, for effective estimation of evolving technologies. - Contextualizes solar conversion for systems design and implementation in practical applications - Provides a complete understanding of solar power, from underlying science to essential economic outcomes - Analytical approach emphasizes systems simulations from measured irradiance and weather data rather than estimations from "rules of thumb" - Emphasizes integrative design and solar utility, where trans-disciplinary teams can develop sustainable solar solutions that increase client well-being and ecosystems services for a given locale
