Wolfgang Smith accomplishes a re-integration of the physical sciences into a worldview banished since the Enlightenment yet perfectly accommodative of every legitimate discovery of science. This worldview proves to be precisely what is needed to resolve the quandary of the quantum paradox, which has stymied theoretical physicists since 1927!

Traditional scholarship has generally neglected the philosophy of nature in Greek Neoplatonism. In the last few decades, however, this attitude has changed radically. Natural philosophy has increasingly been regarded as a crucial aspect of late antique thought. Furthermore, several studies have outlined the impressive historical legacy of Neoplatonic physics. Building on this new interest, the ten papers published here concentrate on Neoplatonic philosophy of nature from Plotinus to Simplicius, and on its main conceptual features and its relation to the previous philosophical and scientific traditions. The papers were presented at a conference sponsored by the European Science Foundation in Castelvecchio Pascoli in June 2006. This volume makes an important contribution to the understanding of Greek Neoplatonism and its historical significance.

If you ever had a desire for a more palpable foretaste of fruits that lay at the end of our spiritual journey or if you wish to decipher a deeper meaning of spiritual delights available for us all along its path, this book might be for you. For what awaits us in heaven is the glory of God directly shared with us without a need for any kind of mediation. In that unmediated union “we shall see God in his essence [in] the same [way He] sees himself… [and] in that vision we shall see the same thing that God sees,” (Summa Theologica, Supplementum q82, a1, 2). Yet, along the way as wayfarers here on earth, our knowledge of God is still mediated by “spiritual delights” and therefore we are only “united to him as to something unknown,” (Supplementum q82, a1, 3). When a union with God is realized through grace of divine courtship “a soul experiences the “divine things in their own manner of expression that only one who has experienced them can understand: he rejoices over them and keeps silent about them… So it is that the divine touch gives a foretaste of eternal life even if the joy is not as perfect as it will be in eternal glory. The soul ‘tastes here, by participation, all the divine riches, the fortitude, wisdom, love, beauty, grace, goodness, and so on. And because God is all these things, a person enjoys them in only one touch of God, and the soul rejoices within its faculties and within its substance. From this blissful delight of the soul, sometimes the unction of the Holy Spirit overflows into the body. Then all the sensory substance, all the members and bones and marrow rejoice . . . with a feeling of great delight and glory, even in the outermost joints of the hands and feet.’ In this foretaste of eternal life the soul feels she has been rewarded, richly and far beyond her merits for all her former efforts, troubles, difficulties and penances,” (Edith Stein, The Science of the Cross, 200).

Owen Barfield written by Michael V. Di Fuccia and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-27 with Religion categories.

In this book Michael Di Fuccia examines the theological import of Owen Barfield's poetic philosophy. He argues that philosophies of immanence fail to account for creativity, as is evident in the false shuttling between modernity's active construal and postmodernity's passive construal of subjectivity. In both extremes subjectivity actually dissolves, divesting one of any creative integrity. Di Fuccia shows how in Barfield's scheme the creative subject appears instead to inhabit a middle or medial realm, which upholds one's creative integrity. It is in this way that Barfield's poetic philosophy gestures toward a theological vision of poiēsis proper, wherein creativity is envisaged as neither purely passive nor purely active, but middle. Creativity, thus, is not immanent but mediated, a participation in being's primordial poiēsis.

The Quantum Enigma written by Wolfgang Smith and has been published by Sophia Perennis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Philosophy categories.

Following the overthrow of the classical world picture by the findings of quantum mechanics, physicists have proposed a broad gamut of alternative worldviews. The Quantum Enigma begins with the major recognition that each of these suffers from a certain "residual Cartesianism" that has been smuggled in unconsciously. It turns out that the moment this hidden and problematic premise is discarded, quantum theory begins to "make sense" in a way that it never has before. As the author shows, it is now possible, for the first time, to integrate the findings of quantum physics into a worldview that conforms to the permanent intuitions of mankind. This work can be read by scientists but is also surprisingly accessible to the general reader unacquainted with the technical conceptions of physics or the quantum-reality literature. --

Efficient Causation written by Tad M. Schmaltz and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-26 with Philosophy categories.

Causation is now commonly supposed to involve a succession that instantiates some law-like regularity. Efficient Causation: A History examines how our modern notion developed from a very different understanding of efficient causation. This volume begins with Aristotle's initial conception of efficient causation, and then considers the transformations and reconsiderations of this conception in late antiquity, medieval and modern philosophy, ending with contemporary accounts of causation. It includes four short "Reflections" that explore the significance of the concept for literature, the history of music, the history of science, and contemporary art theory.
