A quasi trenta anni visito bambini, e cerco di curarli "in scienza e coscienza". Durante gli studi universitari ho appreso la pratica vaccinale. E per molti anni ho vaccinato i bimbi affidati alle mia cure con ogni vaccino disponibile, convinto dell'utilità dell'immunizzazione di massa. Ho dedicato buona parte del mio tempo ai bambini, ai miei pazienti, spinto dalla voglia di andare al fondo dei problemi, senza fermarmi alla superficie, mantenendo uno spirito critico. Nel corso della mia attività ho avuto modo di incontrare bimbi non vaccinati, e ho iniziato a rendermi conto che avevo accettato senza riserve e riflessioni il concetto secondo cui i vaccini sono sempre efficaci e sicuri. Ho cominciato a constatare che la frequenza delle malattie pediatriche più comuni erano ridotte nei bimbi non vaccinati rispetto a quelli sottoposti alle vaccinazioni. Ho conosciuto genitori i cui figli si erano ammalati gravemente, o che addirittura erano morti a causa della somministrazione di un vaccino. Ho iniziato a vedere questa pratica con occhi diversi, ho dato altre interpretazioni alle malattie che avevo visto insorgere dopo la vaccinazione, provocate a volte anche da me, e che non avevo messo in relazione al vaccino. Ho cominciato a pormi altre domande, a cercare risposte non conformiste o obbedienti a logiche di routine, studiando quanto disponibile nella letteratura scientifica internazionale, mettendo a confronto dati e ricerche cliniche... Eugenio Serravalle è medico specialista in Pediatria Preventiva, Puericultura e Patologia Neonatale. Ha già pubblicato La salute è servita (Paideia 2006), Vaccinare contro il papillomavirus?
