Der Lebensmittelonlinehandel in Deutschland gewann, verstärkt durch die Covid-19-Pandemie, an Umsatzanteilen im Lebensmitteleinzelhandel. Hierdurch wurden neue Anforderungen an Arbeit und Beschäftigung in Deutschland geschaffen. Insbesondere in urbanen Räumen hat die Lebensmittelzustellung durch neu entstandene Betriebsformen zugenommen. So entstehen durch das Versprechen der Betriebe, Lebensmittel in kurzen Zeiträumen zu liefern, verschiedene Logistikstandorte und u.a. urbane Fahrradlieferdienste. Während Medien und Gewerkschaften bereits vor der Entstehung prekärer Arbeitsbedingungen warnen, sind die genauen Auswirkungen des Lebensmittelonlinehandels auf die Entwicklung neuer Arbeitsstandorte und die dort stattfindende Beschäftigung nur unzureichend bekannt. Diese Arbeit untersucht den Lebensmittelonlinehandel anhand seiner Betriebsformen, Standorte und Arbeitsprozesse sowie deren Auswirkungen auf Beschäftigte in Deutschland. Den konzeptionellen Hintergrund bilden Arbeiten der geographischen Handelsforschung sowie Debatten zu Arbeitsplatzqualität und Beschäftigung. Für die Analyse sind Primärdaten und Sekundärdaten erhoben worden. Es zeigt sich, dass teilweise komplexe Betriebsformen entstehen, bei denen sich die Arbeit und Arbeitsorte verändern. Zudem entstehen neue Herausforderungen für die Beschäftigten (u.a. physische und psychische Belastung), welche in dieser Arbeit identifiziert werden.

Nach ersten, wenig erfolgreichen Entwicklungsimpulsen in den 1990er Jahren ist der Online-Lebensmitteleinzelhandel in Deutschland inzwischen in eine Expansionsphase übergegangen, die durch einen Wandel unterschiedlicher Einflussfaktoren begünstigt wurde, so zuletzt beispielsweise durch Rahmenbedingungen der Covid-19-Pandemie. Diese Entwicklung führt dabei nicht nur zu einer Herausbildung neuer oder transformierter Betriebsformen, sondern treibt auch einen Wandel von räumlichen Organisationstrukturen an, der veränderte Standortanforderungen handelnder Akteure mit sich bringt. Diese Arbeit untersucht jene Veränderungen in Bezug auf Logistik, Lagerinfrastruktur und Filialsysteme anhand von ausgewählten Unternehmensbeispielen aus dem ergänzenden, reinen sowie kombinierten E-Commerce. Dabei bedient sich die Arbeit einerseits am theoretischen Ansatz der Multi-Level-Perspektive aus dem Blickwinkel der Transitionsforschung, um zu ergründen, warum eine Expansion des Online-Lebensmitteleinzelhandels heute im Gegensatz zu den 1990er Jahren begünstigt wird. Andererseits wird mithilfe eines Methodenmixes aus Sekundärdatenanalyse und qualitativer Forschung analysiert, welche Charakteristika die neuen Betriebsformen aufweisen und welche veränderten Ansprüche diese an die Organisationsstruktur sowie die Standorte von Handelsunternehmen stellen. Dabei kann verdeutlicht werden, dass logistische Abläufe (wie auch der Ort der Warenübergabe) heute eine hohe Relevanz für die Charakteristik einer Betriebsform aufweisen und der Online-Lebensmitteleinzelhandel somit zu einer größeren Hybridisierung des Lebensmitteleinkaufs - überwiegend in urbanen Räumen - führt. Dies zeigt zudem, dass bisherige Betriebsformensystematiken nicht mehr ausreichen, um die komplexen Merkmale der neuen Betriebsformen und Vertriebsmodelle hinreichend abzubilden.

Fifty years after the Arusha Declaration, this book sets out to reevaluate one of the most important roots of Tanzania's Ujamaa Socialism: The Ruvuma Development Association. Based on a basic-democratic movement of young politicized farmers, this organization not only brought together up to 18 cooperative villages in southwestern Tanzania, it also became the inspiration for President Nyerere to put his vision of a modern socialist society built on the image of the traditional extended family into a concrete development model on national scale. Led by a participative understanding of empirical research, this explorative study has analyzed the local history of Ujamaa in three case study villages within Ruvuma. Through employing a mix of expert and narrative interviews, as well as group interviews and villager questionnaires, the study sheds new light on the local perceptions of Ujamaa history and communal development, as well as on the interrelations between local and national scale on Tanzania's path of development. It identifies the recent farmers' groups (vikundi) as some of the most important heirs to the Nation's socialist ideology and concludes that in many aspects "the smell of Ujamaa is still there".

This exploratory study examined the sociological process of Nature Based Tourism (NBT) institutions' adaptation to climate change, in 7 Village Development Committees of the Mustang district, a popular destination in the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA), Nepal. In particular, the study investigated the social resilience and adaptive governance capacities of the institutions responsible in operating tourism services, business and managing tourism resources in the study area. The analytical and methodological approach used in the study included sphere (a dynamic social space concept), quality of governance, integrative institutional adaptation assessment frameworks and case study action research method. Institutional social resilience capacities are found to be reliant on socio-political construction of adaptation knowledge and power, produced as a result of several influencing factors. Most important ones include: site and institutions specific political, economic and environmental dispositions, the associated processes of knowledge constructions and volition action, and the social relationships and interaction of the institutions operating within the study area. Adaptive governance capacities hinge on the institutional arrangements, the procedural aspects of adaptation governance and the governmentality. These are reflective of the diverse legal frameworks, the interiority perspective of the decision making and governance practices of the NBT institutions.

Availability of water and desiccation of important water reservoirs is a vital challenge in semi-arid to arid climates with growing economy and population. Low quantities of precipitation and high evaporation rates leave the water supply vulnerable to human activity and climatic variations. Endorheic basins of Northern Iran were hydrologically landlocked within geological timescales and thus bear evidence of past variations of water resources in generations of water related landforms, like abandoned lake level shorelines, alluvial fans and stream terraces. Understanding the development of these landforms reveals crucial information about past water reservoirs and landscape history. This study offers a comprehensive approach on understanding the geomorphological development of the landscape throughout Late Pleistocene and Holocene times. It integrates remote sensing and geographic information system analysis, with geomorphological and stratigraphical mapping fieldwork and detailed sedimentological investigations. The work shows the importance of analytical geomorphological mapping for delineating stratigraphic units of the Iranian Quaternary. Thus, several phases of drying and lake level retreat were identified in parallel geoarchives and could be dated to a time span from today to Late Pleistocene. The findings link the fate of the citizens of the ancient city of "Tepe Hissar" to their access to water and to the power of geomorphological processes, which started changing their environment.
