The story continues in The Forgotten Kingdom, the second book in the epic Lost Queen trilogy, already hailed as “Outlander meets Camelot” (Kirsty Logan, author of Things We Say in the Dark) and “The Mists of Avalon for a new generation” (Linnea Hartsuyker, author of The Golden Wolf). AD 573. Imprisoned in her chamber, Languoreth awaits news in torment. Her husband and son have ridden off to wage war against her brother, Lailoken. She doesn’t yet know that her young daughter, Angharad, who was training with Lailoken to become a Wisdom Keeper, has been lost in the chaos. As one of the bloodiest battles of early medieval Scottish history scatters its survivors to the wind, Lailoken and his men must flee to exile in the mountains of the Lowlands, while nine-year-old Angharad must summon all Lailoken has taught her and follow her own destiny through the mysterious, mystical land of the Picts. In the aftermath of the battle, old political alliances unravel, opening the way for the ambitious adherents of the new religion: Christianity. Lailoken is half-mad with battle sickness, and Languoreth must hide her allegiance to the Old Way to survive her marriage to the next Christian king of Strathclyde. Worst yet, the new King of the Angles is bent on expanding his kingdom at any cost. Now the exiled Lailoken, with the help of a young warrior named Artur, may be the only man who can bring the Christians and the pagans together to defeat the encroaching Angles. But to do so, he must claim the role that will forever transform him. He must become the man known to history as “Myrddin.” Bitter rivalries are ignited, lost loves are found, new loves are born, and old enemies come face-to-face with their reckoning in this compellingly fresh look at one of the most enduring legends of all time.

The Lost Queen written by Signe Pike and has been published by Atria Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-04 with Fiction categories.

“Outlander meets Camelot” (Kirsty Logan, author of The Gracekeepers) in the first book of an exciting historical trilogy that reveals the untold story of Languoreth—a powerful and, until now, tragically forgotten queen of sixth-century Scotland—twin sister of the man who inspired the legendary character of Merlin. Intelligent, passionate, rebellious, and brave, Languoreth is the unforgettable heroine of The Lost Queen, a tale of conflicted loves and survival set against the cinematic backdrop of ancient Scotland, a magical land of myths and superstition inspired by the beauty of the natural world. One of the most powerful early medieval queens in British history, Languoreth ruled at a time of enormous disruption and bloodshed, when the burgeoning forces of Christianity threatened to obliterate the ancient pagan beliefs and change her way of life forever. Together with her twin brother Lailoken, a warrior and druid known to history as Merlin, Languoreth is catapulted into a world of danger and violence. When a war brings the hero Emrys Pendragon, to their door, Languoreth collides with the handsome warrior Maelgwn. Their passionate connection is forged by enchantment, but Languoreth is promised in marriage to Rhydderch, son of the High King who is sympathetic to the followers of Christianity. As Rhydderch's wife, Languoreth must assume her duty to fight for the preservation of the Old Way, her kingdom, and all she holds dear. “Moving, thrilling, and ultimately spellbinding” (BookPage), The Lost Queen brings this remarkable woman to life—rescuing her from obscurity, and reaffirming her place at the center of the most enduring legends of all time. “Moving, thrilling, and ultimately spellbinding, The Lost Queen is perfect for readers of historical fiction like The Clan of the Cave Bear and Wolf Hall, and for lovers of fantasy like Outlander and The Mists of Avalon” (BookPage).

A Life of Albert Pike, originally published in 1997, is as much a study of antebellum Arkansas as it is a portrait of the former general. A native of Massachusetts, Pike settled in Arkansas Territory in 1832 after wandering the Great Plains of Texas and New Mexico for two years. In Arkansas he became a schoolteacher, newspaperman, lawyer, Whig leader, poet, Freemason, and Confederate general who championed secession and fought against Black suffrage. During his tenure as Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite—a position he held for more than thirty years beginning in 1859—Pike popularized the Masonic movement in the American South and Far West. In the wake of the Civil War, Pike left Arkansas, ultimately settling in Washington, D.C., where he lived out his last years in the Mason's House of the Temple. Drawing on original documents, Pike’s copious writings, and interviews with Pike’s descendants, Walter Lee Brown presents a fascinating personal history that also serves as a rich compendium of Arkansas’s antebellum history.

Pike written by Benjamin Whitmer and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-04 with Fiction categories.

The acclaimed debut from the author of Cry Father, nominated for France’s most prestigious crime fiction award, is a “relentlessly visceral” (Seattle Examiner) story of fatherhood and redemption with the sharp edge of a thriller and a dark heart that “easily rivals Larry Brown’s most renowned novels” (Spinetingler Magazine). Douglas Pike is no longer the murderous hustler of his youth, but he’s certainly no kinder. He works odd jobs, just living out his life in Appalachia with his partner Rory, hemming in his demons the best he can. His best seems just good enough until his estranged daughter overdoses, and he takes in his twelve-year-old granddaughter, Wendy. Just as the two are beginning to forge a relationship, a dirty cop kills a black man and, while on hiatus from the force, takes an unhealthy interest in Wendy. Pike and Rory head to Cincinnati to learn what they can about the death of Pike’s daughter and the crooked cop, three evenly matched predators circling a human wilderness of junkie squats, roadhouse bars, and homeless Vietnam vet encampments. Now featuring extended excerpts from Cry Father, the novel LitReactor called “a gut punch of raw storytelling power…absolutely uncompromising,” Benjamin Whitmer’s inimitable literary voice is a tour de force infused with acerbic wit and keen wisdom about the flawed nature of humanity.

From below the Christmas tree lights of Rockefeller Center, Zach Pike, star quarterback of the New York Jets, is brutally kidnapped. As girlfriend Meg Symes helplessly looks on, Zach is spirited away, just the start of an overseas odyssey that will have him shackled, shown to the world by way of a grisly CNN video - put on display. But why? Does the answer lie in secrets relating to the defense contract work of Zach’s father, Ben? Or is it all owing to a childhood friendship Zach and Meg shared with Zvi Langer, an Israeli with a clandestine list of terrorist kills? As a vortex of events swirl around the seemingly senseless abduction, Zvi and Meg get reacquainted and work as a team to help their friend; the U.S. Attorney General gets suspicious and presses for an investigation of Ben Pike even as the FBI interestingly opposes it; and a rogue CIA Director of Operations plays a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with the abductors. The climax involves the harrowing reunion of Zach, Meg, and Zvi in a high stakes international crisis that is also a test of individual courage.
