Thin Places is an eloquent meditation on what it means to move between cultures and how one might finally come home, a particular paradox in a culture that lacks deep ties to the natural world. During the 1990s, Ann Armbrecht, an American anthropologist, made several trips to northeastern Nepal to research how the Yamphu Rai acquired, farmed, and held onto their land; how they perceived their area's recent designation as a national park and conservation area; and whether-as she believed-they held a wisdom about living on the earth that the industrialized West had forgotten. What Armbrecht found instead were men and women who shared her restlessness, people also driven by the feeling that there must be more to life than they could find in their village. Charting Armbrecht's travels in the mountains of Nepal and in the United States, as well as her disintegrating marriage back home, Thin Places is ultimately an exploration not of the sacred far-off but of the sacredness of places that are between?between the internal and external landscape, the self and others, and the self and the land. She finds that home is not a place where we arrive but a way of being in place, wherever that place may be.

Walking Home written by Sonia Choquette and has been published by Hay House, Inc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-21 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Life was falling apart. Within the space of three years, Sonia Choquette had suffered the unexpected death of two close family members, seen her marriage implode, and been let down by trusted colleagues. And sympathy was not forthcoming. "You’re a world-renowned spiritual teacher and intuitive guide," people jeered. "How could you not have seen this coming?" Having intuitive abilities didn’t make her superhuman, however. Nor did it exempt her from being wounded or suffering the pain of loss and the consequences of our all-too-human traits such as anger, resentment, and pride—traits that can lead even the best of us to stray from our spiritual path. In order to regain her spiritual footing, Sonia turned to the age-old practice of pilgrimage and set out to walk the legendary Camino de Santiago, an 820-kilometer trek over the Pyrenees and across northern Spain. Day after day she pushed through hunger, exhaustion, and pain to reach her destination. Eventually, mortification of the flesh gave way to spiritual renewal, and she rediscovered the gifts of humility and forgiveness that she needed to repair her world. In this riveting book, Sonia shares the intimate details of her grueling experience, as well as the unexpected moments of grace, humor, beauty, and companionship that supported her through her darkest hours. While her journey is unique, the lessons she learned—about honoring your relationships with others as well as with your own higher self, and forgiving all else—are universal.

From the moment of birth, every one of us is on a pilgrimage, whether we know it or not. Many never discover this crucial truth. They merely settle down in this world, seeing it as home and doing the best they can to make a life. But alienation from God, being far from His presence, is the lot of everyone upon entering life. Our true home is where He is, and the true purpose of life is to find our way back home. Even as newborn Christians, very few realize this fact. Some never do, their whole Christian life a struggling mixture of the spiritual and the worldly. And for those who never come to Christ, life is but one long series of futile attempts to fill the void in their hearts, only to find that nothing, no created thing, works. They live and die never knowing who they really are, who God intended them to be. In Pilgrimage, Rod Connell invites all readers to share in this journey through the lens of his own personal experience. Along the way, the pitfalls and detours, as well as the progress and triumphs, are outlined and thoroughly discussed--designed to guide, inform, and encourage all fellow travelers and to persuade others to come along. Find a guide for your own Pilgrimage toward true purpose and hope.

Home In India written by Andrew Mills and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-15 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

The setting is Madurai District in Tamil Nadu, India. The author and his young family arrive just nine years after India’s independence. He is assigned to do development work under the Church of South India in a poor village area during 1956–61. The memoir progresses from the excitement in adjusting to a new culture and learning the South Indian language Tamil to the author’s application of his skills to help poor villagers, all of whom turn out to be Dalits, the outcasts of South Indian society. In the end, his devotion to his work with the villagers comes into a major conflict with the fact that he and his family have to go on furlough to the United States at the end of the term, and there is a strong likelihood that they would not return due to his wife’s unhappiness with being in India. Much of the memoir is devoted to telling the stories of his friends and colleagues in India who inspired him. They are the primary reason why he is truly at home in India and why he wrote the book.
