Among modern philosophers, Immanuel Kant (1724–1804) has few rivals for his influence over the development of contemporary philosophy as a whole. While the issue of language has become a key fulcrum of continental philosophy since the twentieth century, Kant has been overlooked as a thinker whose breadth of insight has helped to spearhead this advance. The Linguistic Dimension of Kant’s Thought remedies this historical gap by gathering new essays by distinguished Kant scholars. The chapters examine the many ways that Kant’s philosophy addresses the nature of language. Although language as a formal structure of thought and expression has always been part of the philosophical tradition, the “linguistic dimension” of these essays speaks to language more broadly as a practice including communication, exchange, and dialogue.

Idyllen - das sind kurzere Gedichte, die das Verhalten und Gefuhlsleben zweier Liebender thematisieren, jedoch nicht als private Aussprache, sondern als fiktives Rollenspiel. Die Idylle war nicht nur in Polen eine ausserst beliebte Gattung, sondern auch in Litauen, obwohl dort belletristische Literatur in litauischer Sprache bis dato kaum produziert worden war. Die Untersuchung ist gattungstheoretisch orientiert: An einem polnischsprachigen Textkorpus, das ca. 190 Idyllen umfasst, werden die definierenden Merkmale und die historische Gestalt der Gattung der Idylle erarbeitet. Die Arbeit verfolgt dabei einen funktionalen, pragmalinguistischen Ansatz.Das litauischsprachige Textkorpus umfasst ca. 150 Gedichte, die auf ihre Zugehorigkeit zur Gattung hin untersucht werden. In die Untersuchung eingeschlossen sind folkloristische Texte des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts. Die Texte sind entweder als Idyllen oder in verschiedener Weise von der Gattung, wie sie in Polen rekurrent war, beeinflusste Texte. Die litauischen Dichter haben dabei aber kaum einzelne polnische Texte kopiert, sondern die Gattung als solche aus der ihnen bekannten polnischen Literatur ubernommen.
