When Education Meets Politics In Taiwan written by Ka-ho Kwok and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-13 with Education categories.
Politics affect education, particularly in transitional societies. It is obvious that Taiwan’s education reform and democratization share the same set of players. All major educational players played a role at different stages in the electoral process striving for popular support. This book applies game theoretic tools and proposes “dynamic positioning” as a new framework that regards Taiwan’s education reform from 1994 to 2016 as the outcome of players’ strategic interactions (instead of top-down or bottom-up). The complex interplay is characterized by the continual adjustment of one’s preferences and strategies in response to other players’ moves. This concept helps explain how and why Taiwan’s education reform was once embraced by most players (cooperation), but became a battlefield between different camps (non-cooperation) soon after a change of the ruling party in 2000. It disputes various structural approaches on educational change, including functionalism, conflict theory, globalization, and theories of liberal democracy. It also contributes to the field of game theoretical studies in education and the specific literature of politics, social change, and education reform.

An incredible source of information about the Chinese language and China’s minority languages In this accessible and informative book, S. Robert Ramsey lucidly explains what the Chinese language is—its social and geographical situation, its history, its range of dialects, the structure of the modern standard language, and the writing system. He goes on to describe the languages of China’s national minorities, showing how they interrelate with each other and with Chinese. Readers learn about the peoples who speak the languages of China, what China is like linguistically, and the cultural and historical settings of the country’s languages. For those who want more linguistic detail, Ramsey provides lists, maps, charts, and descriptions along with technical references in notes at the end of the book. Invaluable to general linguists and Sinologists alike, The Languages of China is an excellent introduction to Chinese and East Asian linguistics.

Language Typology written by Alice Caffarel and has been published by John Benjamins Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.
This book is intended as a systemic functional contribution to language typology both for those who would like to understand and describe particular languages against the background of generalizations about a wide range of languages and also for those who would like to develop typological accounts that are based on and embody descriptions of the systems of particular languages (rather than isolated constructions). The book is a unique contribution in at least two respects. On the one hand, it is the first book based on systemic functional theory that is specifically concerned with language typology. On the other hand, the book combines the particular with the general in the description of languages: it presents comparable sketches of particular languages while at the same time identifying generalizations based on the languages described here as well as on other languages. The volume explores eight languages, covering seven language families: French, German, Pitjantjatjara, Tagalog, Telugu, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese.
