Pipilotti Rist Open My Glade written by Pipilotti Rist and has been published by Louisiana Museum of Modern Art this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-21 with Art categories.

Over the last three decades, Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist (born 1962) has been an original and impactful voice on the contemporary art scene with her sensuous, colorful and norm-subverting audio and video universes (the artist's first name is itself a nod to Swedish author Astrid Lindgren's rebellious, freethinking heroine Pippi Longstocking). With projections on ceilings, walls and floors, Rist liberates the moving image from the screen through installations and new electronic formats. While body and gender are central themes in her early pieces, the main focus of her recent work has shifted towards nature. Rist's art is sensually playful and compelling, while also diving deeply into existential abysses. Superbly produced with a die-cut cover, this book is published in connection with Rist's midcareer survey exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, and comprises texts by some of the foremost specialists on Rist's work, as well as a selection of videos, which can be experienced as AR (augmented reality).

Pipilotti Rist is among the world's best-known artists working with video. Her multi-screen installations have a dream-like quality as, for example, a beautiful young woman (the artist herself) cavorts in fantastic seascapes or surreal jungles. This monograph explores the artist and her work. It features: a discussion of Rist's work in relation to notions of Utopia; an examination of Rist's innovation in video technology in the creation of a new female image; an exploration of the psychoanalytical implications of one video work, Absolutions (Pipilotti's Mistakes) (1988); Artist's Choice, for which the artist has selected two selections from the poet Anne Sexton and novelist Richard Brautigan; and Artist's Writings - Rist's descriptions of her dreams, highly influential in the realization of her imagery, are set alongside a homage to video pioneer Nam June Paik.

Known for playful and provocative video projects that range from monumental installations to intimate, single-channel works, Pipilotti Rist (born 1962) is a pioneer of moving-image art. This publication examines the process and execution of Rist's "The Tender Room," a new environmentally scaled installation at the Wexner Center for the Arts. "The Tender Room" envelopes viewers in the transformative power of color through video projections and colored films applied to the gallery's expansive windows. This catalogue documents the project, which included seating elements designed by the artist, a newly fabricated underwear chandelier, the video projections, and video installations developed for the nearby restrooms. Also addressed in the catalogue is an additional new video installation developed for two restrooms and one of the artist's best-known public projects, "Open My Glade (Flatten)" (2000), which was originally shown in Times Square and was exhibited concurrently with "The Tender Room" just outside the Wexner Center's entrance.

The genre of the video clip has been established for more than thirty years, mainly served by the sub genres of video art and music video. This book explores processes of hybridization between music video, film, and video art by presenting current theoretical discourses and engaging them through interviews with well-known artists and directors, bringing to the surface the crucial questions of art practice. The collection discusses topics including postcolonialism, posthumanism, gender, race and class and addresses questions regarding the hybrid media structure of video, the diffusion between content and form, art and commerce as well as pop culture and counterculture. This book maps the presence of moving images within the field of public art through encounters with passersby. It argues that far from mere distraction or spectacle, moving images can produce moments of enchantment that can renew, intensify, or challenge our everyday engagement with public space and each other. These artworks also offer frameworks for understanding how moving images operate in public space—how they move viewers and reconfigure the site of the screen. Each chapter explores a mode of address that examines how artists and curators leverage the moving image’s attentional power to engage audiences, create spaces, make place, and challenge assumptions. This book also examines the difficulties and compromises that arise when using urban screens for public art.

Artists, art historians, and critics look at the legacies of feminism and critical theory in the work of women artists, more than thirty years after the beginning of the modern women's movement and Linda Nochlin's landmark essay "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?" More than thirty years after the birth of the modern women's movement and the beginnings of feminist art-making and art history, the time is ripe to examine the legacies of those revolutions. In Women Artists at the Millennium, artists, art historians, and critics examine the differences that feminist art practice and critical theory have made in late twentieth-century art and the discourses surrounding it. In 1971, when Linda Nochlin published her essay "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?" in a special issue of Art News, there were no women's studies, no feminist theory, no such thing as feminist art criticism; there was instead a focus on the mythic figure of the great (male) artist through history. Since then, the "woman artist" has not simply been assimilated into the canon of "greatness" but has expanded art-making into a multiplicity of practices with new parameters and perspectives. In Women Artists at the Millennium artists including Martha Rosler and Yvonne Rainer reflect upon their own varied practices and art historians discuss the innovative work of such figures as Louise Bourgeois, Lygia Clark, Mona Hatoum, and Carrie Mae Weems. And Linda Nochlin considers changes since her landmark essay and looks to the future, writing, "We will need all our wit and courage to make sure that women's voices are heard, their work seen and written about." This book is a vibrant investigation on a deeply human subconscious desire: the desire for omnipresence, or in a nutshell, the desire to be here, there, and everywhere at the same time. After all, why is it not enough just to be in the offline ordinariness of the here and now? To answer this question, Camila Mozzini-Alister does the crossing of two seemingly distant universes: mediation and meditation. Throughout a vigorous archaeology of the relationship between screen and mind allied with an engaging first-person narrative, the author raises awareness of the risks of becoming addicted to social media and obsessed by meditation. This brings forth a vital question: what are the limits for the desire to be more than a body?

Art And Psychoanalysis written by Maria Walsh and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-20 with Art categories.

Often derided as unscientific and self-indulgent, psychoanalysis has been an invaluable resource for artists, art critics and historians throughout the twentieth century. Art and Psychoanalysis investigates these encounters. The shared relationship to the unconscious, severed from Romantic inspiration by Freud, is traced from the Surrealist engagement with psychoanalytic imagery to the contemporary critic's use of psychoanalytic concepts as tools to understand how meaning operates. Following the theme of the 'object' with its varying materiality, Walsh develops her argument that psychoanalysis, like art, is a cultural discourse about the mind in which the authority of discourse itself can be undermined, provoking ambiguity and uncertainty and destabilising identity. The dynamics of the dream-work, Freud's 'familiar unfamiliar', fetishism, visual mastery, abjection, repetition, and the death drive are explored through detailed analysis of artists ranging from Max Ernst to Louise Bourgeois, including 1980s postmodernists such as Cindy Sherman, the performance art of Marina Abramovic and post-minimalist sculpture. Innovative and disturbing, Art and Psychoanalysis investigates key psychoanalytic concepts to reveal a dynamic relationship between art and psychoanalysis which goes far beyond interpretation. There is no cure for the artist - but art can reconcile us to the traumatic nature of human experience, converting the sadistic impulses of the ego towards domination and war into a masochistic ethics of responsibility and desire.
