It was like just yesterday he was with his father on the lone island but his father was gone forever. It was a few days ago, Man prepared a burial for his father assisted by his father's close friend, Wak. Wak had been a trustworthy friend of Hassan, Man's father. He had frequently visited Hassan and Man on the island. Wak lived in a nearby island with his family. Wak had been giving a helping hand to Hassan and Man when asked for. Wak was deeply saddened by the demise of Hassan. Man felt being left alone in an ambiguous future which he was unsure whether it was going to be good or otherwise. He was getting a grip on himself to look for a path which will bring him back to a great time he used to trodden. He thanked Wak after the funeral and walk briskly towards his house.Man walked to a settee located at the corner of his bedroom and slumped himself on the settee. While seated he contemplated what could his late father be hiding from him and what could be hidden in the small chest located in his father's room. During his lifetime his father had led an ordinary peasant life. He couldn't be hiding a treasure for him. It could just be his personal belongings which didn't matter at all. Whatever it was he was curious to find out what in store for him and what could he find to good use. Abruptly, he got up to his feet towards the small chest with anticipation. He rummaged through his father's belongings in a small chest. He found mostly clothes which his father wore for special occasions. Then to his amazing surprise he found a few treasure maps underneath the clothes. There was a treasure map located on an island next to the island where he lived. And there was a treasure map deep in the interior of Sarawak. A treasure map which demanded his close attention was the one located in an island off the coast of Mukah. It was more detailed and raised his curiosity. Man cried in exhilaration and found a new life injected in him by the discovery. They was too much things in his mind which made him exhausted and finally he laid on his father's bed consumed by exhaustion.The next morning he blinked his eyes open while lying in bed and still struck by disbelief with what he had discovered. Hassan had never mentioned about the maps during his lifetime. Man was immensely delighted to find the assets left by his father, indeed. He was solidly determined to look for the treasures and build a community on the island. He was only eighteen and should be anticipating a great life and not to brood over the parting of his father for the rest of his life. He thought he should be building a life full of great things and he looked forward to a fulfilling life ahead. But of course, his father will always be close to his heart. As it was a childhood dream to round up his cousins and friends to live together. Every time when he was alone in his contemplation place at the edge of the jungle he would dreamt of a merry community on the island. Now was the time he would realize his dreams. He got up immediately to prepare for the day ahead.

In his travel diary for the years 1843 to 1846 Keppel describes Brooke's campaign against piracy and his own role in solving the conflicts. The focus of his journal, however, is rather on the description of Borneo. Keppel gives the reader his impressions of the island and its people and local customs.
