A utilização de plantas medicinais para fins terapêuticos é tão antiga quanto a civilização humana e foram fundamentais na área da saúde, tanto relativo ao uso tradicional, bem como na descoberta de novos fármacos. É crescente o uso da fitoterapia como prática médica integrativa, o que está relacionado com o conhecimento popular e uso tradicional, grande diversidade vegetal e o baixo custo associado à terapêutica.
