Author and veteran piano instructor Deborah Rambo Sinn tackles a different interpretive principle, explaining clearly, for example, how to play effective ornaments and rubatos. As a whole, the book helps pianists understand concrete ways to apply interpretive concepts to their own playing and gives teachers practical ways to teach interpretation to their students. The book is illustrated with over 200 repertoire excerpts and supplemented by a companion website with over 100 audio recordings. Playing Beyond the Notes is essential reading for all performing pianists, independent piano teachers, and piano pedagogy students.

In Cataloging beyond the Notes: Annotating Bibliographic Records for Music Effectively in RDA, authors Ralph Hartsock and Peter Lisius present examples illustrating the effective use of notes in the description of music, and this is especially important with RDA. Since RDA has increased granularity in the description of music, whether in score, recording, video, or data formats, the expert direction offered in Cataloging beyond the Notes makes it a key reference for music cataloging. Bibliographic records are presented using MARC21. An essential resource for practicing music catalogers, Cataloging beyond the Notes begins with a comprehensive introduction, including instructions on how to use the book, and presents examples of the granular data that informs users about specific details. In addition, the examples are augmented by the authors’ commentary, so that the result is expert guidance in a single, highly accessible publication. More than that, navigation to and from the newer RDA format is facilitated by an appendix keyed to specific RDA details. Frequently used and related terms are also covered in a glossary specific to this volume. Taken as a whole, Cataloging beyond the Notes belongs in every music library and on each cataloger’s desk.

The Expectations Of Morality written by Gregory Mellema and has been published by Rodopi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Philosophy categories.

Moral expectation is a concept with which all of us are well acquainted. Already as children we learn that certain courses of action are expected of us. We are expected to perform certain actions, and we are expected to refrain from other actions. Furthermore, we learn that something is morally wrong with the failure to do what we are morally expected to do. A central theme of this book is that moral expectation should not be confused with moral obligation. While we are morally expected to do everything we are obligated to do, a person can be morally expected to do some things that he or she is not morally obligated to do. Although moral expectation is a familiar notion, it has not been the object of investigation in its own right. In the early chapters Mellema attempts to provide a philosophical account of this familiar notion, distinguish it from other types of expectations, and show how it is possible to form false moral expectations. Subsequent chapters explore the role of moral expectation in agreements between people, analyze ways that people avoid moral expectation, illustrate how groups can have moral expectations, and view moral expectation in the context of our relationship with divine beings. The final chapter provides insight into how moral expectation operates in people's professional lives.

Piano Basics written by James D. Riley and has been published by Dorrance Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-04-02 with Music categories.

In the past century, dozens of books have been written that are designed to teach piano. Within these books are time-honored practices and principles of learning how to play. Almost invariably, these books contain information on scales, notes, chords, and songs which the learner is expected to master. And, those books lead the reader through the same basic sequence of learning the piano- from the parts of music to the whole, from notes to scales to chords, from the pieces of written music to the whole. And for the most part, these books are very thorough. Why is that 90% of those who try these books never play the piano again after their initial encounter with the instrument? While it is possible to come up with a variety of reasons, including the inherent difficulty of the instrument, lack of talent on the part of the learner or lack of disciple, none of these explanations are really satisfactory. Some learners have the discipline to overcome all sorts of obstacles to learn melodies, simple songs, and even difficult pieces. And it is rare that even the least talented learner can't acquire some skill on the instrument, if they have work ethic. This book is remarkably different for three major reasons. First, this book is based on the assumption that "the keyboard is the book." (Or, the book is the keyboard.) The music is not in the notes on the page, for they are just marks. THe music is in the mind of the learner and in the sounds produced through the mind to the fingers to the keyboard and back again. Second, this book builds on the traditions of the past. It is not that all of the books, instructors and past methods are wrong. But it does mean that they may have fallen short of the goals they reflected. Third, this book is based on how learners learn; not just on how notes, scales, and chords are presented. Many of the past books assume that it is up to the learner to fill in the blanks. Throughout the book, there will be found explanations on how to learn and what happens when a person is learning new information.

Beyond The Soundtrack written by Daniel Ira Goldmark and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-06-08 with Performing Arts categories.

This groundbreaking collection by the most distinguished musicologists and film scholars in their fields gives long overdue recognition to music as equal to the image in shaping the experience of film. Refuting the familiar idea that music serves as an unnoticed prop for narrative, these essays demonstrate that music is a fully imagined and active power in the worlds of film. Even where films do give it a supporting role—and many do much more—music makes an independent contribution. Drawing on recent advances in musicology and cinema studies, Beyond the Soundtrack interprets the cinematic representation of music with unprecedented richness. The authors cover a broad range of narrative films, from the "silent" era (not so silent) to the present. Once we think beyond the soundtrack, this volume shows, there is no unheard music in cinema.

The Art Of Double Bass Playing written by Warren Benfield and has been published by Alfred Music this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Music categories.

The Art of Double Bass Playing is the result of a collaboration between Warren Benfield, an outstanding bassist/teacher and James Seay Dean, Jr., Associate Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, a skilled writer/editor. Warren Benfield started his professional career in 1934 as the youngest member of the Minneapolis Symphony. Moving on to the St. Louis Symphony as principal bass and then to the Philadelphia Orchestra as co-principal bass, he joined the Chicago Symphony in 1949 where he remained until his retirement in 1987. Benfield has always been dedicated to teaching, and during his years with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, he was on the faculties of Northwestern University and DePaul University. He has also given many master classes and lectures, including two in China. Since retiring, he is continuing to teach a few students at the American Conservatory and at Chicago's Merit School for underprivileged children, which focuses on the arts. Benfield's particular aim is to teach the approach of the double bass from a musical, as well as a technical standpoint.
