This marriage of convenience is about to teach him a big life lesson... Ben Leach, a defenseman for the York Bombers, has everything in life he could want—except happiness. Terminally miserable, he's settled into his rut with the acceptance of someone who knows he doesn't deserve any better—until he runs into an old acquaintance during a quick trip to Las Vegas...a trip that changes everything. Natalie Kenney is on the run thanks to a stalker ex who thinks she belongs to him. Running into her old friend's brother couldn't have come at a better time and, in an impulsive move that surprises her, she accepts his half-hearted attempt to rescue her. But the rescue comes with consequences. The new couple suddenly finds themselves in positions neither one expected, faced with challenges—and threats—that push them both out of their comfort zones. Will their new relationship lead to something more, or is it merely a marriage in name only? Ben expects it to crash-and-burn like the happiness that always seems to be just out of his reach. When the final buzzer sounds, he needs to decide if he's simply playing a part or if life—and love—is a lot more than a spectator sport.

This book aims to explore which plays were deemed ‘suitable’ to be reworked for foreign or local stages; what transformations – linguistic, semiotic, theatrical – were undertaken so as to accommodate international audiences; how national literary traditions are forged, altered, and diluted by means of transnational adapting techniques; and, finally, to what extent the categorical boundaries between original plays and adaptations may be blurred on the account of such adjusting textual strategies. It brings together ten articles that scrutinise the linguistic, social, political and theatrical complexities inherent in the intercultural transference of plays. The approaches presented by the different contributors investigate modern British theatre as an instance of diachronic and synchronic transnational adaptations based upon a myriad of influences originating in, and projected upon, other national dramatic traditions. These traditions, rooted in relatively distant geographies and epochs, are traced so as to illustrate the split between the state-imposed identity and personal, subjective identity caused by cultural negotiations of the self in an age of globalism. International frontiers are thus pointed at in order to claim the need to be transcended in the process of cultural re-appropriation associated with theatre performance for international audiences.

Jonathan Belcher written by Michael C. Batinski and has been published by University Press of Kentucky this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-15 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

As early as the eighteenth century, New England's ministers were decrying public morality. Evangelical leaders such as Jonathan Edwards called for rulers to become spiritual as well as political leaders who would renew the people's covenant with God. The prosperous merchant Jonathan Belcher (1682-1757) self-consciously strove to become such a leader, an American Nehemiah. As governor of three royal colonies and early patron of the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University), Belcher became an important but controversial figure in colonial America. In this first biography of the colonial governor, Michael C. Batinski depicts a man unusually riddled with contradictions. While governor of Massachusetts, Belcher deftly maneuvered longstanding rivals toward a political settlement; yet as chief executive of New Hampshire, he plunged into bitter factional disputes that destroyed his administration. The quintessential Puritan, Belcher learned to thrive in London's cosmopolitan world and in the whiggish realm of the marketplace. He was at once the courtier and the country patriot. An insightful blend of social and political history, this biography demands that Belcher be recognized as the embodiment of the Nehemiah, perhaps as important in his own realm as Cotton Mather was in religious circles. Grappling with the contradictions of Belcher's actions, the author explains much about the complexities of the world in which Belcher lived and wielded influence.
