Excerpt from Playing Santa Claus: And Other Christmas Tales A Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you, dear children! This little volume comes to you as a holiday gift, and in its pages we have endeavored to show you that true and lasting happiness can be found only in doing good to others. Let the lesson sink deep into your hearts. Even the least among you can do much good. Look around you. Do not wait for some great opportunity to offer, but with willing hearts and busy hands perform the most trifling acts of usefulness to others. Continue to do this throughout the year, and we will promise you that when another New Year dawns upon the earth, you will look back with rejoicing, giving thanks to your Heavenly Father that you have found that true happiness which can never be taken from you. Christmas Tales And Christmas Verse written by Eugene Field and has been published by Jazzybee Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Fiction categories.

This is a book of tales and verse for children, of that sort which holds older readers with an equal fascination. Mr. Field is a master of this delicate sort of art, and the book abounds in a great variety of themes and moods, from the mediaeval romance to the symbolic prose-poem, or the modern child-story. A common spirit of tenderness and of a sort of elfish humor, if we may be allowed the expression, binds the various tales and verses together as on one string, and gives a very distinct and unified impression to the whole volume. "The Mouse and the Moonbeam" is as exquisite a bit of folly and wistful pathos as one could wish for, and so simple in style and word! The book is profusely illustrated by Florence Storer.

A young baby named Claus is found abandoned in a forest. Claus is taken in by Ak, the Master Woodsman of the World and a wood nymph named Necile and has a happy upbringing away from other humans. When Claus moves away, he gains a reputation for kindness towards children, and starts carving toys to give them. The evil Agwas steal the toys as they are stopping the children from misbehaving, forcing Claus to enter homes through chimneys to deliver his gifts. There are plenty more adventures in store for Claus before he becomes Santa Claus, in this delightful festive children’s story from renowned author L. Frank Baum. Lyman Frank Baum (1856 – 1919) was a prolific and well-known American writer. He is best known for his famous series of modern fairy tales set in the imaginary land of Oz. The first of the books, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ is widely considered to be the first true American fairy tale and was the basis for the hugely popular 1939 classic musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ starring Judy Garland. Born and raised in New York, Baum held a range of jobs including as a poultry farmer, clerk, and storekeeper before pursuing his talent for writing at the age of 41. He wrote 14 novels in the Oz series, as well as over 40 other novels and over 80 short stories. He died in California in 1919.
