Britain’s secret state exists to protect her from ‘enemies within’. It has always aroused controversy; on the one hand it is credited with preventing wars, revolutions and terrorism and on the other it is accused of subverting democratically elected governments and luring innocents to death. What is the true story? The book, first published in 1992, delves beneath the myths and deceptions surrounding the secret service to reveal the true nature and significance of covert political policing in Britain, from the ‘spies and bloodites’ of the eighteenth century to today’s MI5. This title will be of interest to students of modern history and politics.

The purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to facts not readily available, and in many instances purposefully hidden, about the birth of this country, the framers of the Constitution, and their hidden agenda. This book gives some insights into the problems that the founders of this country faced in convincing the people that they would have a large voice in their government and freedoms not enjoyed by other countries. And at the same time keeping total control of all monetary assets, making sure that the ruling elites' pockets were lined in a fashion befitting monarchs. In other words, the founders' problem was, how do we keep the dummies under control and working for our benefit without them even realizing that they are still basically slaves?

Regina Baldwin was once one of the most famous runners in the world. Back in her prime, she ran a marathon in under three hours. After retiring from sports, she continues to host and M.C. races all over America. Her podcasts and documentaries have made her a fitness guru to millions. So, it's all the more baffling when she drops dead whilst overseeing a marathon in Wrangler's Hill. The evidence points to murder-but who would want to kill such a beloved figure? Amateur investigator Geneva Pomolo and her partner, Iris Reeves, are determined to find out. They encounter a housewife turned conspiracy theorist who's convinced she's stumbled on a scheme to brainwash America's youth; a woman who bullied the victim in her youth and still bears a grudge; a wealthy grifter who made a small fortune removing "curses" from people's homes; and a man who served ten years in prison for kidnapping his own wife-a man whose release ignites a scandal that threatens to tear Wrangler's Hill apart. Navigating treacherous social waters, battling bigotry, and trying not to get murdered, Geneva and Iris must tackle their most puzzling case yet-a case that threatens to turn their whole community against them in their quest for the truth.

Plots Against Russia written by Eliot Borenstein and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-15 with Literary Criticism categories.

In this original and timely assessment of cultural expressions of paranoia in contemporary Russia, Eliot Borenstein samples popular fiction, movies, television shows, public political pronouncements, internet discussions, blogs, and religious tracts to build a sense of the deep historical and cultural roots of konspirologiia that run through Russian life. Plots against Russia reveals through dramatic and exciting storytelling that conspiracy and melodrama are entirely equal-opportunity in modern Russia, manifesting themselves among both pro-Putin elites and his political opposition. As Borenstein shows, this paranoid fantasy until recently characterized only the marginal and the irrelevant. Now, through its embodiment in pop culture, the expressions of a conspiratorial worldview are seen everywhere. Plots against Russia is an important contribution to the fields of Russian literary and cultural studies from one of its preeminent voices.

Plots Literary Form And Conspiracy Culture written by Ben Carver and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-29 with Political Science categories.

This edited collection contributes to the study of conspiracy culture by analysing the relationship of literary forms to the formation, reception, and transformation of conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories are narratives, and their narrative form provides the structure within which their ‘readers’ situate themselves when interpreting the world and its history. At the same time, conspiracist interpretations of the world may then be transmediated into works of literature and import popular discourse into narrative structures. The suppression and disappearance of books themselves may generate conspiracy theories and become co-opted into political dissent. Additionally, literary criticism itself is shown to adopt conspiracist modes of interpretation. By examining conspiracy plots as literary plots, with narrative, rhetorical, and symbolic characteristics, this volume is the first systematic study of how conspiracy culture in American and European history is the consequence of its interactions with literature. This book will be of great interest to researchers of conspiracy theories, literature, and literary criticism.

The Secret State written by Richard C. Thurlow and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-01-09 with History categories.

This is a history of the secret activities of the British government in response to threats to the nation's well-being and stability during the twentieth century. It is based on intensive and widespread research in private and public archives and on documents many of which have only recently come to light or been made available. The dangers perceived by the state have been manifold and various, coming from within and from abroad. Anarchists, fascists, socialists, communists, the IRA, trades-unionists and animal activists as well as spies, terrorists and saboteurs have been the subject of undercover investigation, along with almost every large-scale movement from suffragettes to campaigners for peace and nuclear disarmament. The author describes the methods and people employed, and the mixed nature of their results. The British state has always seen itself as civil and liberal, but as Dr Thurlow shows it has sometimes been far from open. The government has had many weapons at its disposal, from public order acts, censorship, internment and proscription on the one hand, to covert operations, infiltration and manipulation on the other. Yet when examined in the light of new evidence, the activities of the state are fully comprehensible only in terms of those who comprised it. The author shows the tensions among the departments (between MI5, MI6, SIS and the Special Branch, for example), and the crucial part played by individuals whose motives were often far from what the government supposed them to be. This is an at times disturbing, at others almost comical, but always fascinating account. It throws light on the inmost workings of the state, as well as on the movements and people subject to investigation and action.
