Aspiration Pneumonia written by Shinji Teramoto and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-17 with Medical categories.

This book offers an essential overview of aspiration pneumonia, and focuses on four major aspects: epidemiology, pathophysiology, new preventive strategies, and trending topics. Each part presents detailed findings and insights into critical issues for the treatment of the disease including its diagnosis, assessment, selecting antibiotics, similarities and differences between aspiration risk and aspiration pneumonia risk, different therapeutic approaches and so on. The book also discusses emerging topics concerning the definition of NHCAP and sleep apnea. Special attention is given to therapeutic and preventive approaches for the elderly, highlighting recent advances and the evidence on their positive outcomes. Since the patients with this disorder are often in a post-stroke state and elderly, the book is highly relevant for neurologists and geriatric physicians. Further, many surgeons also face this type of pneumonia in association with postoperative complications and cancer therapy related complications. Lastly, the definition of aspiration pneumonia and its therapeutic strategy have yet to be established in many countries, and the data presented here should serve as a guideline for its future diagnosis and treatment. As such, the book offers a valuable resource for primary physicians, pulmonologists, gerontologists, respiratory nurses, physical therapists, dentists and otolaryngologists alike.

Community Acquired Pneumonia written by Antoni Torres and has been published by Wiley this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-02 with Medical categories.

Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) refers to pneumonia acquired outside of hospitals or extended-care facilities, and is distinct from Nosocomial or hospital-acquired pneumonia, which is a separate disease entity. It is one of the most common respiratory infections and presents one of the major health problems today, with an incidence that ranges from eight to fifty cases per thousand individuals each year. Mortality is still very high and yet the risk factors are very well known. Many of these are related to antibiotic treatment; delay in administration, inadequacy of empiric antibiotics and lack of adherence to guidelines for treatment are all clearly associated with poor treatment outcomes. Following a description of the epidemiology and microbial etiology of ambulatory and hospitalized CAP, this book provides an in-depth review of the important new advances in therapeutics, including management of drug resistance to the three major classes of antibiotics used for treatment of CAP: β-lactams, macrolides and quinolones. All of them have advantages and disadvantages and these are put into perspective. This book highlights guideline recommendations and presents a balanced analysis to help physicians deliver the highest standard of care. In addition, the authors provide an insight into the 10% of patients who do not respond to antibiotics and could benefit from adjunctive therapies, some still under review. This volume will be welcomed by pulmonologists and all clinicians involved in managing community-acquired pneumonia.

Chalk Talks In Internal Medicine written by Somnath Mookherjee and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-30 with Education categories.

This book provides teaching scripts for medical educators in internal medicine and coaches them in creating their own teaching scripts. Every year, thousands of attending internists are asked to train the next generation of physicians to master a growing body of knowledge. Formal teaching time has become increasingly limited due to rising clinical workload, medical documentation requirements, duty hour restrictions, and other time pressures. In addition, today’s physicians-in-training expect teaching sessions that deliver focused, evidence-based content that is integrated into clinical workflow. In keeping with both time pressures and trainee expectations, academic internists must be prepared to effectively and efficiently teach important diagnostic and management concepts. A teaching script is a methodical and structured plan that aids in effective teaching. The teaching scripts in this book anticipate learners’ misconceptions, highlight a limited number of teaching points, provide evidence to support the teaching points, use strategies to engage the learners, and provide a cognitive scaffold for teaching the topic that the teacher can refine over time. All divisions of internal medicine (e.g. cardiology, rheumatology, and gastroenterology) are covered and a section on undifferentiated symptom-based presentations (e.g. fatigue, fever, and unintentional weight loss) is included. This book provides well-constructed teaching scripts for commonly encountered clinical scenarios, is authored by experienced academic internists and allows the reader to either implement them directly or modify them for their own use. Each teaching script is designed to be taught in 10-15 minutes, but can be easily adjusted by the reader for longer or shorter talks. Teaching Scripts in Internal Medicine is an ideal tool for internal medicine attending physicians and trainees, as well as physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, and all others who teach and learn internal medicine.

WHAT IS PNEUMONIA? Pneumonia is a contamination of your lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Pneumonia causes your lung tissue to swell (infection) and might cause fluid or pus on your lungs. Bacterial pneumonia is usually more extreme than viral pneumonia, which regularly resolves on its own. Pneumonia can have an effect on one or both lungs. Pneumonia in both of your lungs is called bilateral or double pneumonia. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VIRAL AND BACTERIAL PNEUMONIA? At the same time, as all pneumonia is inflammation as a result of an infection in your lungs, you can have unique signs and symptoms depending on whether or not the foundational cause is a deadly disease, microorganism, or fungus. Bacterial pneumonia has a tendency to be more common and more severe than viral pneumonia. It's more likely to require a health facility. Companies treat bacterial pneumonia with antibiotics. Viral pneumonia causes flu-like signs and is much more likely to resolve on its own. You typically don't want specific treatment for viral pneumonia. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF PNEUMONIA? We categorize pneumonia by way of which pathogen (virus, bacteria, or fungi) brought about it and the way you got it-community-received, medical institution-received, or ventilator-associated pneumonia. Community-obtained pneumonia (CAP) When you get pneumonia outside of a healthcare facility, it's referred to as "community-received pneumonia." Reasons include: Microorganism: infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria, additionally referred to as pneumococcal ailment, is the most common cause of CAP. Pneumococcal sickness can also cause ear infections, sinus infections, and meningitis. Mycoplasma pneumoniae bacteria causes strange pneumonia, which commonly has milder symptoms. Other bacteria that cause CAP encompass Haemophilus influenza, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Legionella (Legionnaires' Sickness). WHAT ARE MICROORGANISMS? Bacteria are microscopic, residing organisms that have only one cell. The phrase for "simple one" is "bacterium." Millions (if not billions) of different varieties of microorganisms may be found everywhere in the world, such as in your body. They're for your pores and skin, as well as your airways and mouth. They're also in your digestive system, reproductive system, and urinary tract.
