Quien no ha soado con la luna y se ha ilusionado, y ha pedido a las estrellas que se culminen sus sueos, quien no ha sentido la caricia en el umbral de la noche apoderndose del alma, el latido del corazn, el suspiro que se escapa, ese palpitar en el pecho cuando en la noche se vive con ansias, esa explosin de sentimientos que locuras desata? Quien no ha sentido el desamorquien no ha derramado una lgrima, quien no ha aceptado una derrota y ha callado por no perder las esperanzas? Es explosivo el amorson intransigentes las ansias y como Rayo de luna se albergan en poemas las esperanzasse suea en versos, se digieren las palabras, todo es amor, pasin y deseoaunque a veces nos saque una que otra lgrima. Este es mi tercer poemario lleno de vivencias, de aventuras y de retos. Quienes amen la poesa encontrarn respuestas en las horas de silencio con sabor a vida y la entrega en cada verso. He escrito cada uno de ellos con mis mayores deseos, para que sientan la caricia, para que vivan sus devaneos, para que surque una sonrisa en cada uno de sus pensamientos. Mi reto: entrar en sus corazones, alivianar los sufrimientos y hacer de sus momentos de lectura acontecimientos mgicos.

Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research under way in specialized areas. The Handbook of Latin American Studies is the oldest continuing reference work in the field. La importancia que empezó a cobrar el fenómeno religioso a inicios del siglo XXI incita a preguntarse cuál es el sentido y el devenir de lo sagrado, ámbito de lo humano silenciado en el mundo "desencantado" del Occidente moderno, según la célebre fórmula de Max Weber de los albores del siglo XX. “I don’t know how it happened, but I ended up being the writer in my family,” Jorge Argueta says in his poetic memoir. He wrote his first lines as an adolescent, though he didn’t know what the words meant or that it was poetry. “But now I see that in putting down those words, I was stepping into a huge world, much bigger than my own: beautiful and mysterious, full of profound joy and infinite possibilities.” In this moving, bilingual collection, renowned poet Jorge Argueta reminisces about growing up in El Salvador, the impact of war on his family and neighbors, life as an exile in the United States and ultimately his rebirth as a poet. He became involved in the revolution as a teen, not realizing what was to come, “a bloody massacre … An entire generation disappearing / As if it were a trifle / To lose the entire future of a country.” Mothers lose sons, their bodies beat beyond recognition. Friends’ bodies are thrown into common graves. Husbands lose wives and wives lose husbands. “Death saunters / Dressed in olive green / A rabid dog / Snapping at anyone in its path.” Argueta’s words recall the horrific violence and atrocities committed, frequently against the poor and powerless. The 48 poems in this collection—in Spanish and English—smolder with loss and longing. Argueta’s indigenous roots ultimately contribute to his salvation after he flees his homeland. His braids, he writes, “are rivers / Of my village / Running / Down my back.” In San Francisco, he becomes part of the city’s exile community, yearning for home but knowing his friends and relatives are dead or gone. His pain is like a ring that “lives on my left hand / as if I were / married to it.” Eventually, he returns to writing and becomes a successful children’s book author. In spite of the pain and sorrow expressed in many of these poems, Argueta’s work is a powerful testament to love, hope and the strength of the human spirit.
