Contini) han definido como el «milagro de Dante», no basta la lectura de su obra, por fundamental que resulte ésta, sino que es necesario un itinerario biográfico e intelectual del escritor: reconstruir su camino desde sus primeros juicios poéticos juveniles, en la Florencia totalmente provinciana de su época, hasta sus trabajos durante la madurez, de donde surgió la Divina Comedia... Fruto de más de treinta años de búsquedas y estudios que le han permitido la adquisición de importantes novedades de orden biográfico y exegético sobre el tema dantesco, Enrico Malato se propone en este libro un objetivo importante, muy alejado de sólo delinear un dibujo de Dante y su obra: exhibir los resultados de tales investigaciones en el perfil general del personaje, de forma que éste resulta, al fin, de carne y hueso, bien definido e iluminado. Malato está considerado como el gran especialista sobre la figura de Dante, uno de los mayores poetas de la historia con una bella historia de amor con Beatriz.
