Nuclear Physics With Polarized Particles written by Hans Paetz gen. Schieck and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-02 with Science categories.
The measurement of spin-polarization observables in reactions of nuclei and particles is of great utility and advantage when the effects of single-spin sub-states are to be investigated. Indeed, the unpolarized differential cross-section encompasses the averaging over the spin states of the particles, and thus loses details of the interaction process. This introductory text combines, in a single volume, course-based lecture notes on spin physics and on polarized-ion sources with the aim of providing a concise yet self-contained starting point for newcomers to the field, as well as for lecturers in search of suitable material for their courses and seminars. A significant part of the book is devoted to introducing the formal theory—a description of polarization and of nuclear reactions with polarized particles. The remainder of the text describes the physical basis of methods and devices necessary to perform experiments with polarized particles and to measure polarization and polarization effects in nuclear reactions. The book concludes with a brief review of modern applications in medicine and fusion energy research. For reasons of conciseness and of the pedagogical aims of this volume, examples are mainly taken from low-energy installations such as tandem Van de Graaff laboratories, although the emphasis of present research is shifting to medium- and high-energy nuclear physics. Consequently, this volume is restricted to describing non-relativistic processes and focuses on the energy range from astrophysical energies (a few keV) to tens of MeV. It is further restricted to polarimetry of hadronic particles.

Mathematical And Statistical Methods For Multistatic Imaging written by Habib Ammari and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-29 with Mathematics categories.
This book covers recent mathematical, numerical, and statistical approaches for multistatic imaging of targets with waves at single or multiple frequencies. The waves can be acoustic, elastic or electromagnetic. They are generated by point sources on a transmitter array and measured on a receiver array. An important problem in multistatic imaging is to quantify and understand the trade-offs between data size, computational complexity, signal-to-noise ratio, and resolution. Another fundamental problem is to have a shape representation well suited to solving target imaging problems from multistatic data. In this book the trade-off between resolution and stability when the data are noisy is addressed. Efficient imaging algorithms are provided and their resolution and stability with respect to noise in the measurements analyzed. It also shows that high-order polarization tensors provide an accurate representation of the target. Moreover, a dictionary-matching technique based on new invariants for the generalized polarization tensors is introduced. Matlab codes for the main algorithms described in this book are provided. Numerical illustrations using these codes in order to highlight the performance and show the limitations of numerical approaches for multistatic imaging are presented.

Layer Potential Techniques In Spectral Analysis written by Habib Ammari and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Mathematics categories.
Since the early part of the twentieth century, the use of integral equations has developed into a range of tools for the study of partial differential equations. This includes the use of single- and double-layer potentials to treat classical boundary value problems. The aim of this book is to give a self-contained presentation of an asymptotic theory for eigenvalue problems using layer potential techniques with applications in the fields of inverse problems, band gap structures, and optimal design, in particular the optimal design of photonic and phononic crystals. Throughout this book, it is shown how powerful the layer potentials techniques are for solving not only boundary value problems but also eigenvalue problems if they are combined with the elegant theory of Gohberg and Sigal on meromorphic operator-valued functions. The general approach in this book is developed in detail for eigenvalue problems for the Laplacian and the Lame system in the following two situations: one under variation of domains or boundary conditions and the other due to the presence of inclusions. The book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students working in the fields of partial differential equations, integral equations, and inverse problems. Researchers in engineering and physics may also find this book helpful.

Impact Spectropolarimetric Sensing written by Sergi Kazantsev and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
This book arises from the significant quantity of original results in the field of impact spectropolarimetry, mainly for solar flare studies, and the evident potential applications of this technique to environmental physics, astrophysics, and hot plasma. This is a practically oriented book, describing theoretical fundamentals and implementation of this new interdisciplinary remote sensing technique. A basic phenomenon for impact spectropolarimetric sensing is the polarization ofthe electron shells of an ensemble of free atomic particles (atoms, ions, molecules) due to collisional interaction. Slow collisions in the presence of internal anisotropies in the relative velocity space inside any ionized medium, as well as bombardment of a diluted gas by fast precipitating light projectiles, are analyzed in detail as principal impact polarization mechanisms. Impact spectro polarimetric sensing incorporates state-of-the-art theoretical methods of colli sional physics in combination with reliable polarimetric measurements. This technique is illustrated by the new quantitative sensing of energy transport to the upper region of the chromosphere during solar flares, making use of ground based solar spectropolarimetric observations. Apart from general astrophysical and solar-terrestrial significance, a solar flare, the brightest nonthermal phenomenon, is a good candidate for the demonstration of new opportunities of impact spectropolarimetry. New astrophysical achievements of quantitative spectropolarimetry are particularly considered in this book. The theoretical part presents a quantum mechanical description of impact polarization and the spectropolarimetric manifestations for different energies of the colliding partners.

Imaging Multi Scale And High Contrast Partial Differential Equations written by Habib Ammari and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-23 with Computers categories.
This volume contains the proceedings of the Seoul ICM 2014 Satellite Conference on Imaging, Multi-scale and High-Contrast PDEs, held from August 7-9, 2014, in Daejeon, Korea. The mathematical analysis of partial differential equations modelling materials, or tissues, presenting multiple scales has been a very active area of research. The study of the corresponding imaging or reconstruction problem is a more recent area. If the material parameters of the partial differential equation present high contrast ratio, then the solution to the PDE becomes particularly challenging to analyze and compute. On the other hand, imaging in highly heterogeneous media poses significant challenges to the mathematical community. The focus of this volume is on recent progress towards complete understanding of the direct problem with high contrast or high frequencies, and unified approaches to the inverse and imaging problems for both small and large contrast or frequencies. Of particular importance in imaging are shape representation techniques and regularization approaches. Special attention is devoted to new models and problems coming from physics leading to innovative imaging and signal processing methods.
