The second edition of this landmark textbook is distinguished by its pioneering approach to encompassing disability and aging policies under one umbrella, in response to the newly developed Administration on Aging and Disability. It addresses policy changes impacting health and disability services resulting from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and other new legislation, and offers a pioneering approach to transforming policy into practice applications. New to the second edition is current census data and new legislative mandates from the ACA and other policy organizations impacting aging adults and/or disabled populations. Also included is new coverage on Social Media, Motivational Interviewing, Health Literacy, Underrepresented Groups, LGBT, and Rural Communities. Podcasts, available as downloads, present the messages of advocates, lobbyists, policy experts, and consumers who address various aspects of relevant policies and policy development. This authoritative book serves as an invaluable resource for policy advocates, program planners, and service delivery agents. It provides an overview of the major pieces of legislation that currently impact the field of aging, and the lives of older adults; addresses the philosophical, historical, and demographic challenges that they face; and lays out tools that facilitate policy and program development to include the media, coalition building, the use of an evidence base, and health promotion strategies. Jurkowski also examines major service areas for older adults, and how each major mandated program addresses these programs and services--a must for the program planner or a service delivery setting. The book is also extremely helpful to graduate students in social work, public health, and gerontology, building their understanding of policy development through a critical analysis and review of policy frameworks, and promotes development of skills in shaping programs and implementing policy. Unlike other books in this field, Policy and Program Planning for Older Adults focuses on triangulating skills, policies, and programs for the reader, and blends a social welfare and public health approach to the text's conceptual design. Taiwan S Senior Learning Movement written by Brian Findsen and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-21 with Education categories.
This volume provides an in-depth analysis of historical and recent developments of senior learning in Taiwan, where publications in English have been scant. It takes a broader view on lifelong learning and active ageing from a theoretical/conceptual base written by prominent international authors- this represents the ‘outside in’ perspective. The ‘inside out’ on the other hand signifies an in-depth investigation of initiatives written by authors from Taiwan who are closely involved with developments in policy and practice. The volume is situated theoretically in the intersection of complementary concepts such as lifelong learning, active ageing, later life learning, learning communities and social movements. It is located geographically and culturally in East Asia where senior learning/education is expanding in response to large populations of older adults and concerns about their physical and social well-being. It is argued that Taiwan is leading the way in terms of innovation and community engagement in regard to older adult learning/education and can thus serve as a model for neighboring countries. By analyzing historical precedents, cultural dynamics, policy trends, research sub-fields and community engagement this book is of interest to both East Asian and Western scholars, practitioners, policy-makers and students amongst the fields of lifelong learning, social gerontology and educational psychology.
