The Foreign Economic Policies Of Singapore South Korea And Taiwan written by Christopher M. Dent and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Korea (South) categories.
Dent (Southeast and East Asian economy, U. of Hull, UK) comparatively studies the newly industrialized economies of East Asia, arguing that the foreign economic policies of all the governments is motivated by a search for economic security. The basis of his study is a collection of interviews 156 with government, business, and NGO actors, in which he questions not only technical aspects and recent events of policy, but also changes in underpinning ideologies, values and ideas, and contesting influences of political and economic actors. While significant differences are found, Dent contends that the common developmental context of the three actors is a situation of developmental statism and semi-peripheralization. Evidence-Based Policy Analysis investigates the insights learned from case studies of evidence-based policy evaluation and the policymaking process across the five distinct policy domains, representing a pioneering effort within this sphere of research. Several chapters use Korea's experience as the focus of analysis, for example, on responses to a rapidly aging population along with its low and declining birth rates while taking care that the lessons drawn are applicable to many other emerging nations, especially those in Asia, as they develop sets of policies to address similar issues in their own particular contexts. The book features eminent scholars addressing critical domestic issues through an international and comparative lens focused on a major Asian society, offering lessons for other similar societies and nations.

While studies of policy analysis in other countries have assessed their needs and integrated them into training programmes for professional policy analysts, Japanese studies have been very limited. Policy analysis in Japan brings together for the first time a detailed examination of the theory and practice of policy analysis systems in Japan, at different levels. As part of the successful International Library of Policy Analysis series edited by Iris Geva-May and Michael Howlett, the book provides expert analysis to closely examine to what extent the Japanese government has succeeded in providing key policy actors with evidence-informed policy options, thereby improving the likelihood of better policies being adopted and implemented. The book also assesses Japan’s future policy directions, allowing policy researchers and practitioners to draw a number of lessons from the Japanese experience. The book includes empirical case studies to aid teaching and further research, and will be a valuable resource for students and academics as well as policymakers. Features of the ILPA series include: • a country-specific systematic study of policy analysis systems by government and non-governmental actors • a history of the country’s policy analysis, empirical case studies and a comparative overview of alternative approaches • a key reference collection for research and teaching in comparative policy analysis and policy studies
