I aggressively scribble when I'm angry, revengeful and rebellious. And when I'm in love, my pen is like the most delicate thing I've ever touched. When the sadness hovers over my mind, my pen cries on behalf of my eyes. I laugh along with the jumping words on my diary and my pen makes its way through the drunken letters. Betrayal's the way for the phrases to unleash the demon within me and there's no way anyone can calm it down except the satisfaction I get after I finish jotting down my feelings in a random yet somehow similar shape to my soul. Moods are like different flavours to live a life and I write about them, creating multicoloured abstractions. My very personal POLYCHROMATIC MUSINGS.

I decided to create MMPF mostly for my own process of self-discovery around my beliefs around the relationship between planning and speculative fiction. As a thesis project my initial desire was to hold a convening of futurists, artist, planners, and architects to discuss how we meld our fields to imagine futures that are inclusive not just in physicality but in the values, interests, and needs that hold primacy with which we imagine them. Th en the conference down-sized to pairing artists/futurists with planners/architects/urbanists to engage in world-building exercises. Th at was still too much for me to bite-off for this thesis process, and I was not comfortable asking artists and creative to contribute to this process for free – goodwill and gratitude doesn’t buy groceries. Then in late January early February I spent a lot of time reflecting on what it is that I wanted from this project, separate from the requirements of my master’s thesis, and started looking back at old idea notebooks that I’ve kept over the years. I decided to begin a similar process with this thesis – just collect notes as I interacted with people, ideas came into my head, I encountered people whose experiences I’d never considered. It was in the midst of this journaling, reflecting and re-centering that the name for the project emerged: Musings from the Margins of a Polychrome Future. A project convening futurist and planners to expand our collective imagination of who belongs in cities of the present and future.

Cornelius has travelled widely and has written an account of his journeys with his family through Europe by campervan in “The Gypsy Life”. As a Shakespeare enthusiast he has compiled “Shakespeare’s Lines”, and both books have been published by Partridge Publishing. He is a glider pilot and engineer, and was privileged to crew on a yacht in the Mediterranean. This current book describes his ‘animal’ interests and flying/sailing experiences. The essays are topical, thought provoking and even, perhaps, provocative He and his adult daughter are fortunate to reside in a well wooded stand which encourages wild monkeys and mongooses to visit. They are also subservient to two cats.

Literature And Identity In Italian Baroque Travel Writing written by Nathalie Hester and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-05 with Literary Criticism categories.

This first full-length study in English on seventeenth-century Italian travel writing enriches our understanding of an unusually fertile period for Italian contributions to the genre. The intrinsic qualities of this literature can now be grasped in terms of the larger question of cultural identity in Italy. For Hester, the specifically literary characteristics of Italian travel writing”including its humanism or Petrarchism”highlight the classic eminence throughout Europe of a prestigious tradition inherent to Italy, one compensating then for the peninsula's lack of a national political identity. Appeals to the cultural authority of that tradition represent a means of addressing and overcoming anxieties about the Italian subject's diasporic status during the "Golden Age" of European global colonial expansion. Self-funded travelers Francesco Carletti, Pietro Della Valle, Francesco Belli, Francesco Negri, and Giovanni Francesco Gemelli Careri are the major authors studied who journeyed through Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and America.

SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2016 PEN ACKERLEY PRIZE 'An intense, succulent read that's intermittently dazzling' THE TIMES 'Chilling, exquisitely moving' DAILY TELEGRAPH 'A superb memoir - and one of the best books on addiction I have ever read' EVENING STANDARD A. A. Gill's memoir begins in the dark of a dormitory with six strangers. He is an alcoholic, dying in the last-chance saloon. He tells the truth - as far as he can remember it - about drinking and about what it is like to be drunk. He recalls the lost days, lost friends, failed marriages ... But there was also an 'optimum inebriation, a time when it was all golden'. Sobriety regained, there are painterly descriptions of people and places, unforgettable musings about childhood and family, art and religion; and most movingly, the connections between his cooking, dyslexia and his missing brother. Full of raw and unvarnished truths, exquisitely written throughout, POUR ME is about lost time and self-discovery. Lacerating, unflinching, uplifting, it is a classic about drunken abandon.

Christianity written by Philip Kennedy and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-22 with Religion categories.

The Christian faith has the allegiance of one third of the human race. It has succeeded in influencing civilization to such a degree that we now take its existence almost for granted. Yet it might all have been so different. Christianity began with the words and deeds of an obscure village carpenter's son who died a shameful criminal's death at the hands of the Roman occupiers of his country: itself an insignificant outpost of the powerful ruling Empire. The feverish land of biblical Palestine, awash with apocalyptic expectations of deliverance from its foreign overlords, was hardly short of seers and prophets who claimed to be sent visions from God. Yet the followers of this man thought he was different: so different, in fact, that some years after his death and asserted resurrection they scandalously insisted not only that he was sent by God, but that he 'was' God. How a provincial sect, with its seemingly outrageous ideas, became first the sanctioned religion of the Roman Empire and then, over the course of 2000 years, the creed of billions of people, is the improbable story that this book tells. It is a story of freethinkers, friars, fanatics and firebrands; and of the lay people (not just the clerical or the powerful) who have made up the great mass of Christians over the centuries. Many introductions to Christianity are written by Christians, for Christians. This elegant textbook, by contrast, shows that the history of the religion, while often glorious, is not one of unimpeded progress, but something still more remarkable, flawed and human.

Electrographic Architecture written by Carolyn L. Kane and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Lighting, Architectural and decorative categories.

"By bridging histories of technology, media studies, and aesthetics, Electrographic Architecture: New York Color, Las Vegas Light, and America's White Imaginary weaves a critical narrative of the ways in which illuminated light and color play key roles in the formation of America's white imaginary over the course of the last century. The book sheds light on the central question to which media scholars, architects, and historians of technology repeatedly turn: how can we use and speak about light and color in ways that are productive and commemorative, while remaining critical of the systems of white power undergirding them? Electrographic Architecture: New York Color, Las Vegas Light, and America's White Imaginary analyzes the history of electric light technologies in the aesthetic development of Times Square and Las Vegas. The book charts the rise of America's white walls, light empires, and neoclassical buildings in the early twentieth century, through the construction of polychromatic electrographic spectacles by midcentury, and their eclipse by informatically intense, invisible algorithms at the beginning of the new millennium. Drawing from histories of technology, media, and aesthetics, the book shows how the formation of America's electrographic surround runs isomorphic to a new world ethos of power, property, and possession. Drawing on archival research, interviews, and visual analysis, Electrographic Architecture's introduction, six core chapters, and conclusion illustrate how Times Square's polychromatic surround serves as a complex symbol of America's deep-seated dreams of utopic transcendence on the one hand, coupled with fears of loss and obsolescence on the other. In America's twentieth-century imaginary, whiteness aims to become everything but itself: colorful, lit, vibrant, and vital"--

The ostensible purpose of a library is to preserve the printed word. But for fifty years our country’s libraries–including the Library of Congress–have been doing just the opposite, destroying hundreds of thousands of historic newspapers and replacing them with microfilm copies that are difficult to read, lack all the color and quality of the original paper and illustrations, and deteriorate with age. With meticulous detective work and Baker’s well-known explanatory power, Double Fold reveals a secret history of microfilm lobbyists, former CIA agents, and warehouses where priceless archives are destroyed with a machine called a guillotine. Baker argues passionately for preservation, even cashing in his own retirement account to save one important archive–all twenty tons of it. Written the brilliant narrative style that Nicholson Baker fans have come to expect, Double Fold is a persuasive and often devastating book that may turn out to be The Jungle of the American library system.
