Polynomial operators are a natural generalization of linear operators. Equations in such operators are the linear space analog of ordinary polynomials in one or several variables over the fields of real or complex numbers. Such equations encompass a broad spectrum of applied problems including all linear equations. Often the polynomial nature of many nonlinear problems goes unrecognized by researchers. This is more likely due to the fact that polynomial operators - unlike polynomials in a single variable - have received little attention. Consequently, this comprehensive presentation is needed, benefiting those working in the field as well as those seeking information about specific results or techniques. Polynomial Operator Equations in Abstract Spaces and Applications - an outgrowth of fifteen years of the author's research work - presents new and traditional results about polynomial equations as well as analyzes current iterative methods for their numerical solution in various general space settings. Topics include: Special cases of nonlinear operator equations Solution of polynomial operator equations of positive integer degree n Results on global existence theorems not related with contractions Galois theory Polynomial integral and polynomial differential equations appearing in radiative transfer, heat transfer, neutron transport, electromechanical networks, elasticity, and other areas Results on the various Chandrasekhar equations Weierstrass theorem Matrix representations Lagrange and Hermite interpolation Bounds of polynomial equations in Banach space, Banach algebra, and Hilbert space The materials discussed can be used for the following studies Advanced numerical analysis Numerical functional analysis Functional analysis Approximation theory Integral and differential equation

A First Look At Numerical Functional Analysis written by W. W. Sawyer and has been published by Courier Dover Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-22 with Mathematics categories.

Functional analysis arose from traditional topics of calculus and integral and differential equations. This accessible text by an internationally renowned teacher and author starts with problems in numerical analysis and shows how they lead naturally to the concepts of functional analysis. Suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, this book provides coherent explanations for complex concepts. Topics include Banach and Hilbert spaces, contraction mappings and other criteria for convergence, differentiation and integration in Banach spaces, the Kantorovich test for convergence of an iteration, and Rall's ideas of polynomial and quadratic operators. Numerous examples appear throughout the text.

Mathematical Analysis and its Applications covers the proceedings of the International Conference on Mathematical Analysis and its Applications. The book presents studies that discuss several mathematical analysis methods and their respective applications. The text presents 38 papers that discuss topics, such as approximation of continuous functions by ultraspherical series and classes of bi-univalent functions. The representation of multipliers of eigen and joint function expansions of nonlocal spectral problems for first- and second-order differential operators is also discussed. The book will be of great interest to researchers and professionals whose work involves the use of mathematical analysis.

Working computationally in applied mathematics is the very essence of dealing with real-world problems in science and engineering. Approximation theory-on the borderline between pure and applied mathematics- has always supplied some of the most innovative ideas, computational methods, and original approaches to many types of problems. PREFACE The theory of differential-operator equations has been described in various monographs, but the initial physical problem which leads to these equations is often hidden. When the physical problem is studied, the mathematical proofs are either not given or are quickly explained. In this book, we give a systematic treatment of the partial differential equations which arise in elastostatic problems. In particular, we study problems which are obtained from asymptotic expansion with two scales. Here the methods of operator pencils and differential-operator equations are used. This book is intended for scientists and graduate students in Functional Analy sis, Differential Equations, Equations of Mathematical Physics, and related topics. It would undoubtedly be very useful for mechanics and theoretical physicists. We would like to thank Professors S. Yakubov and S. Kamin for helpfull dis cussions of some parts of the book. The work on the book was also partially supported by the European Community Program RTN-HPRN-CT-2002-00274. xiii INTRODUCTION In first two sections of the introduction, a classical mathematical problem will be exposed: the Laplace problem. The domain of definition will be, on the first time, an infinite strip and on the second time, a sector. To solve this problem, a well known separation of variables method will be used. In this way, the structure of the solution can be explicitly found. For more details about the separation of variables method exposed in this part, the reader can refer to, for example, the book by D. Leguillon and E. Sanchez-Palencia [LS].
