Metempsychosis refers to the passing of the soul at death into another body, either human or animal. At its most basic, it refers to reincarnation, but the theory of past lives can have overwhelming consequences especially when memories of these past lives seep into the life we currently live. Just ask a modern day, middle-aged New Mexico gentleman whose dreams threaten his reality. According to his dreams, this unassuming man was once a printer in seventeenth century Paris and then a United States senator. Prior to both of these lives, he was an Anasazi sun priest in the eleventh century. At first, it was easy to ignore his dreams. However, thanks to their persistence, this man must come to terms with the ramifications of his past lives and how they may affect the life he currently struggles to lead. Set above the backdrop of an ancient bridge in Paris, Pont Marie is the narrative of places, people, and things once forgotten but enlivened in one mans mind. How can he thrive in his current life when the past permeates his present? How can he hold together relationships, when ancient relationships still haunt? Will his quest for closure leave him cleansed or perhaps insane?

Pont Neuf written by Max Byrd and has been published by Permuted Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-07 with Fiction categories.

The splendidly gifted (and faintly scandalous) writer Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway’s famously unhappy third wife, is the presiding spirit over a great romance. Two American soldiers, torn apart by the war, meet and fall in love with Martha’s protégé—the irresistibly charming and vulnerable young reporter, Annie March. Their story begins and ends on the beautiful Pont Neuf, the oldest and best-loved bridge in Paris. For Annie, every bridge connects two different worlds; to cross a bridge is to make a choice. For her, crossing Pont Neuf means choosing one man over the other, one life over another. It is a haunting love story that will move readers to tears. In its Homeric themes of death and love, Eros and Thanatos, Pont Neuf also recalls the epic sweep of Byrd’s earlier novels, especially his acclaimed Civil War novel Grant. Its accounts of the last two massive battles of the war—Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands and the cataclysmic Battle of the Bulge—are riveting and authentic, the result of years of research. These historic moments are not simply a backdrop for romance, but also the treacherous and explosive landscape through which love itself moves. The New York Times called Max Byrd “an expert in blending historical and fictional characters.” Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, Joseph Ellis, called him “the reigning champion of American historical fiction.”

Paris written by Colin Jones and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-06 with History categories.

'Paris is the World, the rest of the Earth is nothing but its suburbs' - Marivaux In this intelligently-written and supremely entertaining new history, Colin Jones seeks to give a sense of the city of Paris as it was lived in and experienced over time. The focal point of generation upon generation of admirers and detractors, a source of attraction or repulsion even for those who have never been there, Paris has witnessed more extraordinary events than any other major city. No spot on earth has been more walked around, written about, discussed, painted and photographed. With an eye for the revealing, startling and (sometimes) horrible detail, Colin Jones takes the reader from Roman Paris to the present, recreating the ups and downs in the history of the city and its inhabitants. Attentive to both the urban environment and to the experience of those who lived within it, PARIS: BIOGRAPHY OF A CITY will be hugely enjoyed by habitual Paris obsessives, by first-time visitors, and by those who know the city only by repute.

This doctoral thesis is a contribution to the analysis of the combinatorics of arbitrarily coloured open Jacobi diagrams and their relationship to Vassiliev invariants. We examine J. Kneissler's five ladder relations and state them in a much more precise way. We also analyse their role in the space of colored open Jacobi diagrams. Then, we establish a sort of machinery - a language together with a toolbox of lemmata, theorems and definitions to build, manipulate and analyse coloured open Jacobi diagrams. With this, we examine the role of generalised Pont-Neuf diagrams and caterpillar diagrams. Lastly we transfer this to the uncolored case, which allows us to show that the space of open Jacobi diagrams up to first Betti number five is already contained in the module of caterpillar diagrams, considered as a module of a certain subset of Vogels' algebra. This means that Vassiliev invariants associated to these degrees do not detect knot orientation.
