The Poetry Of Pop written by Adam Bradley and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-01 with Popular music categories.

From Tin Pan Alley to the Beatles to Beyoncé, "Mr. Bradley skillfully breaks down a century of standards and pop songs into their elements to reveal the interaction of craft and art in composition and performance." (The Wall Street Journal) Encompassing a century of recorded music, this pathbreaking book reveals the poetic artistry of popular songs. Pop songs are music first. They also comprise the most widely disseminated poetic expression of our time. Adam Bradley traces the song lyric across musical genres from early twentieth-century Delta blues to mid-century rock 'n' roll to today's hits. George and Ira Gershwin's "Fascinating Rhythm." The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." Rihanna's "Diamonds." These songs are united in their exacting attention to the craft of language and sound. Bradley shows that pop music is a poetry that must be heard more than read, uncovering the rhythms, rhymes, and metaphors expressed in the singing voice. At once a work of musical interpretation, cultural analysis, literary criticism, and personal storytelling, this book illustrates how words and music come together to produce compelling poetry, often where we least expect it.

I remember when W was president and many people were worried about his intellectual ability. This was much later than Reagan and worries about his Alzheimers. I only heard about this because I was too young to really remember much about Reagan while he was in office. But, this is all overshadowed these days with the fragments and short bursts of Trump and the ramblings of Biden. The time is right to present the poetry of Biden. All of these poems are taken straight from the speeches of Biden through out the years. No wording was changed. Only line breaks were added to turn his words into free verse poetry.

Pop Poetry written by Thomas Gagnon and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-29 with Poetry categories.

There certainly is more than one kind of love. Using traditional forms of poetry (e.g., sonnet, pantoum) and forms from the pop song (e.g., perfect rhyme, repetition), Thomas Gagnon describes different kinds of love: romance and friendshipwith men and with womenlove for a father and for a mentor, even fascination with a celebrity dancer. Beneath these relationshipslike the ancient town beneath the new cityis the relationship with the self, an especially complicated relationship that Gagnon does not shrink from exploring, whether whimsically or solemnly, or whimsically and solemnly in one poem. These poems will reverberate in your mindlike the lyrics from the latest pop song.

Softening concrete poetry with humour and tenderness, POP takes an uncommon perspective on modern poetic traditions, combining deft lyricism with visual poems for a playful romp. POP rummages through the stale Cheetos after the love poem: what remains? What never existed to begin with? The book invites the reader to journey both forward and backward in time, to retrace steps, solve word searches, hold pages to the light. POP delineates the intensities of a volatile relationship through a variety of lenses. As the speaker tries to anchor her experience, she is met with a clamour of perspectives: it is a junk food fight of poetic styles, each line fried and seasoned using recipes passed down for generations; it is a sad clown’s skincare routine; it is a singalong, a cartoonish cacophony of pots and puns. The speaker shakes the love poem for all it’s worth, leaving behind a trail of lint, wrappers, fibs, and soap foam, but opening up enough space to move in herself. "Moving through a variety of poem-structures, including more traditional lyric structures, prose poems, drawings and visual poems, Banu becomes the explorer, fearlessly pushing out into the unknown." —rob mclennan's Blog

Poetry Pictures And Popular Publishing written by Lorraine Janzen Kooistra and has been published by Ohio University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-07 with Literary Criticism categories.

In Poetry, Pictures, and Popular Publishing eminent Rossetti scholar Lorraine Janzen Kooistra demonstrates the cultural centrality of a neglected artifact: the Victorian illustrated gift book. Turning a critical lens on “drawing-room books” as both material objects and historical events, Kooistra reveals how the gift book’s visual/verbal form mediated “high” and popular art as well as book and periodical publication. A composite text produced by many makers, the poetic gift book was designed for domestic space and a female audience; its mode of publication marks a significant moment in the history of authorship, reading, and publishing. With rigorous attention to the gift book’s aesthetic and ideological features, Kooistra analyzes the contributions of poets, artists, engravers, publishers, and readers and shows how its material form moved poetry into popular culture. Drawing on archival and periodical research, she offers new readings of Eliza Cook, Adelaide Procter, and Jean Ingelow and shows the transatlantic reach of their verses. Boldly resituating Tennyson’s works within the gift-book economy he dominated, Kooistra demonstrates how the conditions of corporate authorship shaped the production and receptionof the laureate’s verses at the peak of his popularity. Poetry, Pictures, and Popular Publishing changes the map of poetry’s place—in all its senses—in Victorian everyday life and consumer culture.
