Excerpt from Popular Misconceptions About the First Eleven Chapters of Genesis Some of them are due to the teachings of the nursery, and others can be traced to the imagination of poets, the conceptions of painters, the unbridled fancy of theologians, or the glosses of those Jews whom our Saviour accused of making void the Word of God by their traditions. To these we naturally cling with marvellous and often commendable tenacity. The very style, also, of the Bible, especially of the Old Testament, addressed, as it was, to highly imaginative Orientals, who, even now, usually clothe what they have to say in the language of symbol and metaphor, has suggested difficulties to the colder reason of Western believers. Theology, therefore, during the present' century, and especially during the last thirty or forty years, has had to go through the same process as that to which many other branches of human knowledge have been subjected, and with a similar result - the removal of many popular errors and the establishment of the truth upon more solid and enduring foundations. This is the first comprehensive study about the non-mathematical writings and activities of the Russian algebraic geometer and number theorist Igor Shafarevich (b. 1923). In the 1970s Shafarevich was a prominent member of the dissidents’ human rights movement and a noted author of clandestine anti-communist literature in the Soviet Union. Shafarevich’s public image suffered a terrible blow around 1989 when he was decried as a dangerous ideologue of anti-Semitism due to his newly-surfaced old manuscript Russophobia. The scandal culminated when the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States suggested that Shafarevich, an honorary member, resign. The present study establishes that the allegations about anti-Semitism in Shafarevich’s texts were unfounded and that Shafarevich’s terrible reputation was cemented on a false basis.

Genesis is among the most controversial books of the Bible - facing increasing attacks on its credibility and its meaning within the modern Church as fashionable theories of intelligent design and progressive creationism gain support. Compromising the literal interpretation of Scripture to reconcile faith instead with faulty scientific reasoning on the history of the earth, many within the church are abandoning the very foundational truths of Christianity. Join Ron Bigalke Jr. and influential creationist leaders in discussing the myths and realities of Genesis. In The Genesis Factor you will: Unearth the historical roots of creationism in the church - from the apostle Paul and John, to the Venerable Bede, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Francis Bacon, Galileo, James Ussher, Issac Newton, and others. Learn of the 19th century controversy between leading geologists and the "scriptural geologists" in uncovering the foundations of the oft-contentious relationship of science to Christianity and the Scriptures. Read the Scriptural interpretations that answer the questions regarding the length of a Creation week day. Study point by point the recognized standards of writing history which Genesis 1-11 meet as literal history. This powerful and needed defense of Genesis includes contributors Henry M. Morris, Christopher Cone, Terry Mortenson, Eugene Merrill, Ron J. Bigalke Jr., Tas Walker, Jonathon Henry, Larry Vardiman, John Whitcomb, and Donald DeYoung. From fossil evidence, geologic evidence, and historic evidence, and more, The Genesis Factor reinforces the validity of the scriptural account of Creation, the Great Flood, and the Tower of Babel.

Author Sandy Rapp, a grassroots activist, shares her experiences in one-on-one debates with religious fundamentalists who have been on opposite sides of the social issues for which she has so passionately fought in recent years. God's Country poses some provocative questions that are certain to spark debate among enlightened religious professionals, professors, and students of political science, government, women's history, human sexuality, and religion.
