O presente livro parte desses monumentais alicerces "negativos" para convidar o leitor a tangenciar o indizível. A argumentação da obra, que perpassa em boa medida a produção adorniana in toto, culmina no indiciamento que o título denuncia. Há algo de congruente nas figuras do indizível – do (im)possível – e do sofrimento. Essa estranha congruência que implica a filosofia moral, por um lado, e o sofrimento, por um outro lado, sua (in)dizibilidade, aponta para Adorno mesmo, quando, na esteira de Kant, lembra a famosa constatação: "a dor do outro é o limite da minha representação"; em outra dimensão, uma dimensão precipuamente construtiva, se constitui em um ponto de partida para um pensamento meta-totalizante, de ecos benjaminianos, que promulga, de algum modo, seu não-lugar à medida que acontece.
