This is the first book in English to show how the work of Lev Vygotsky gave rise to a prolific and original school of cultural-historical psychology in Latin America. In recent decades, Latin American researchers have expanded Vygotskyan conceptualizations and applied practical theory to psychological and educational research and practice, but until now this production remained virtually unknown for English speaking audiences since it has been mainly published in Spanish and Portuguese. This timely volume contributes to change this situation by presenting a panoramic picture of the state of the art of cultural-historical psychology in Latin America. The book is divided in two parts. The first part shows how Latin American researchers used Vygotsky’s work to develop new theoretical elaborations and empirical advances to deal with different political, social and cultural problems in the region. A ideia de Formação Docente e Subjetividade: teorias, possibilidades e desafios é abordar de maneira reflexiva e crítica a temática da formação continuada de professores sob a perspectiva da Teoria da Subjetividade de González Rey, especialmente, a partir da análise dos processos de constituição de dois grupos de trabalho formados por professores do ensino médio de duas escolas públicas do Distrito Federal. As análises desses processos permitiram ressaltar a importância de se considerar, no processo de formação continuada, a relação simbólico-emocional que constituiu as interações estabelecidas entre os docentes e que favoreceu ou não a construção de uma ambiência fértil em possibilidades formativas e de desenvolvimento profissional, no espaço-tempo destinado às atividades pedagógicas dos grupos de trabalho. Destaque-se também que o docente, ao assumir o protagonismo e a autoria de sua formação continuada e da sua ação pedagógica, nos espaços relacionais do contexto escolar, pode favorecer o processo de transformação do espaço-tempo destinado à coordenação pedagógica em um lócus privilegiado de desenvolvimento pessoal e profissional. Com isso, afirma-se o desafio de contribuir para que a formação continuada de professores seja planejada e realizada a partir de princípios que favoreçam para a superação de dicotomias, tais como planejamento-ação e ensino-aprendizagem.
