Los colonizadores tuvieron que balancear categorías y sistemas de propiedad, soberanía y recursos. En el proceso, las sociedades fueron desplazadas, las geografías rehechas y las ecologías re-arregladas: emergió una nueva estructura espacial de la relación entre el derecho y el espacio. Y, sin embargo, la relación entre el derecho, el espacio y el poder ha sido casi periférica para los estudios legales y de historia legal y política.
