I am a Jew because I believe that Judaism understands that between mercy and justice there is a path of righteousness. I am a Jew because I believe the “saving of a life” is an urgent mitzvah. I am a Jew because I believe Judaism believes that education is an urgent mitzvah. I am a Jew because Judaism rejects the belief that it is superior to other traditions and makes its claim on me only because it is already mine. I am a Jew because in Judaism all of God’s children are equally God’s children and every life is sacred. I am a Jew because Judaism believes that existence is not an accident and has meaning. I am a Jew because Judaism recognizes holiness in everything beautiful, kind, and just in this world. I am a Jew because Judaism is my spiritual home, and from my home, I can share in the beauty and delights of all creation. I am a Jew because Judaism believes in personal responsibility, forgiveness, and hope. I am a Jew because Judaism values my humanity above my ethnicity and enables me to become a better person by becoming a better Jew. I am a Jew because Judaism recognizes that the world is not complete and that all of us have deep responsibilities in completing it and thereby complete ourselves as human beings and as Jews. — Rabbi Lance J. Sussman, Ph.D.

Volume contributors explore a variety of topics related to Kalmin’s wide-ranging work from the development of the Talmud to rabbinic storytelling, from the transmission of tales across geographic and cultural boundaries to ancient Jewish and Iranian interactions. Gray, Judith Hauptman, Christine Hayes, Catherine Hezser, Marc Hirshman, David Kraemer, Marjorie Lehman, Kristen Lindbeck, Jonathan S. Milgram, Chaim Milikowsky, Michael L. The uniqueness of the Gospel of John is readily apparent. In contrast to the overlapping material in the Synoptic Gospels, John shares only about ten percent of its content with Matthew, Mark, and Luke. John's distinct focus on Jesus' life as the culmination of salvation history makes it "the theological pinnacle of the gospel tradition" and establishes its author, along with the apostle Paul, as one of the early church's foremost theologians. Not a traditional commentary on the book, this volume, like others in the Encountering Biblical Studies series, is designed especially for classroom use. A lucid writing style and a number of pedagogical enhancements make this a perfect tool for helping students master the content and key interpretive issues of the Gospel of John. Like the other volumes in this series, the pedagogical usefulness of this work is enhanced by a number of features: * copious illustrative tables, maps, and photos * sidebars and excursuses that address difficult passages and important issues * an outline and objectives at the beginning of each chapter * study questions and key terms at the conclusion of each chapter * a comprehensive glossary and annotated bibliography * instructor's manual available on diskette

In recent decades, there has been a growing movement within the body of Messiah/ Christ towards a greater understanding of the Hebraic/Jewish roots of Christianity. Moses Wrote About Me is an integral part of this movement. Moses Wrote About Me is the first of five commentary books written by Yosef Rachamim Danieli, a native Israeli Jew who has followed Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth for almost 40 years. He has traveled and taught the Word of God (both Old and New Testaments) inside and outside God’s Promised Land for many years. The author believes that this book series will not only contribute to the body of Messiah’s appreciation of the Jewish roots of Christianity, but that it is also an integral part of the preparation that all true followers of Messiah should make for the Messiah’s Second Coming. For more information on Yosef, to listen to his teachings, sign up to his newsletters, and, to invite him and his wife Gabriela to share with your people on a diversity of subjects related to Israel and the Word, please visit www.touryourroots.com Moses Wrote About Me follows the traditional Jewish readings that are held in every synagogue around the world on Sabbath/Saturday. The book’s emphasis is on the portraits and foreshadowings of the Jewish Messiah in each and every one of these Sabbath readings. To accomplish the goal of increasing our understanding of God’s masterplan of salvation, the author includes comments of the Jewish sages and provides explanations of the meanings of Hebrew words, Hebrew names, and Hebrew places. In addition, Moses Wrote About Me addresses many known theological controversies from a unique and out-of-the-box perspective. All these things create a rich and stimulating experience in the study of the Word of God. The prospective reader is encouraged to approach Moses Wrote About Me with an open mind. Set aside your pre-conceived ideas and doctrines, sit back, relax, and enjoy this unique perspective and approach to God’s Holy Word.
