Alexis Papathanassis postulates that ICS ought to be treated as a complex and demanding management process and that it should be acknowledged as a key enabler of merger value realization. The application of his "Post-merger information and communication systems framework" (POMICS) on a real-life post-merger integration situation in a tourism company serves as a validation and as an illustration of the framework's potential value. It also gives valuable insights into some of the key questions facing the entire tourism sector today.

Most firms of a certain size will turn to Mergers & Acquisitions in their search for growth, forcing almost all managers to face up to the challenge of integration at some point in their career. For many managers it is often their first and only time, and M&A integration is high on the list of things that many managers need to learn more about. According to many studies, 50 to 75% M&A transactions fail to deliver their expected value. One of the main reasons for failure is late or wrong integration, or bad integration management. There is a significant demand for more information on best practice in Post-Merger Integration. This book intends to equip those managers for the task… Danny A. Davis demonstrates how to handle the post-merger integration process and show how to restructure, consolidate, reduce costs, create efficiencies and perform M&A, from smaller transactions to mega-mergers. The focus is on integration planning and delivery. The book combines a general/strategic view with detailed information on how to actually conduct M&A Integration via very practical tools and check lists that will prove essential during pre-deal M&A integration planning and Post deal delivery, as well as to ensure their success.

This thesis analyzes the motivation and performance of 403 acquisitions made by emerging multinational corporations (EMNCs) in Western Europe and North America between 1994 and 2013. The findings indicate that most EMNCs were motivated to acquire in order to obtain access to the upstream and downstream know-how of their target firms. In addition, the thesis' event study results demonstrate that EMNCs on average generated value for their shareholders with their acquisitions over short periods around acquisition announcement. This result is particularly significant since similar studies on buying firms from developed markets have frequently come to the conclusion that acquirers destroy shareholder value.

Information and knowledge have fundamentally transformed the way business and social institutions work. Knowledge management promises concepts and instruments that help organizations to provide an environment supportive of knowledge generation, sharing and application. Information and communication technology (ICT) is often regarded as the enabler for the effective and especially the efficient implementation of knowledge management. The book presents an almost encyclopedic treatise of the many important facets, concepts and theories that have influenced knowledge management and integrates them into a general knowledge management framework consisting of strategy, organization, systems and economics. The book also contains the state of practice of knowledge management on the basis of a comprehensive empirical study, and concludes with four scenarios of the successful application of ICT in knowledge management initiatives.
