Percepatan transisi energi menjadi agenda nasional Pemerintah sekaligus komitmen Indonesia untuk memperluas akses terhadap teknologi yang terjangkau dan bersih guna mendorong pemulihan ekonomi yang berkelanjutan dan lebih hijau. Salah satu aksi dalam percepatan energi dilakukan dengan pengembangan teknologi kendaraan bermotor listrik. Regulasi di tingkat nasional dan global telah dicanangkan untuk mendukung percepatan pemanfaatan kendaraan bermotor listrik. Terlepas dari adanya berbagai peluang penerapan kendaraan listrik di Indonesia, maka masih banyak pula tantangan yang harus dihadapi. Walaupun di sisi hulu, Indonesia memiliki cadangan nikel yang besar sebagai bahan baku utama pembuatan baterai kendaraan listrik, di tahapan manufaktur, industri otomotif di Indonesia masih belum bisa menjadi tuan rumah di negeri sendiri. Kendaraan listrik yang sarat dengan teknologi tinggi masih lebih banyak mengadopsi teknologi yang dimiliki oleh industri besar yang didominasi oleh merk luar negeri. Indonesia masih cenderung menjadi pusat perakitan kendaraan otomotif dibandingkan menjadi produsen.
