Un ouvrage, ici dans sa version Epub, qui, à travers une analyse distanciée et sereine des préconisations peut éclairer et rassurer les enseignants sur l'impact réel de ces rectifications orthographiques sur l'apprentissage de leurs élèves. Dans un contexte qui favorise la polémique à ce sujet, cet ouvrage n'a pas pour objectif de prendre parti pour ou contre les rectifications orthographiques. Il se donne pour ambition d'expliquer les différents aspects que l'on trouve dans les préconisations - qui ne revêtent pas de caractère obligatoire pour le francophone lambda - et d'en montrer les justifications ainsi que les bienfaits pour l'apprentissage des élèves. Pour ce faire, l'ouvrage prend appui sur les résultats d'une étude menée auprès d'enfants scolarisés à l'école primaire en France et au Canada et en commente les résultats. Ainsi, sur les 136 mots touchés par ces propositions (sur les 12000 issus de EOLE) et testés auprès des élèves, 23 peuvent être considérés comme acquis en fin de primaire avec l'orthographe rectifiée, alors qu'ils ne l'étaient pas dans l'enquête passée peu avant l'an 2000 et ayant pour référence " l'orthographe d'avant "... Après un r appel des différentes réformes orthographiques, l'ouvrage reprend en détail les changements essentiels en expliquant le raisonnement et en montrant qu'ils peuvent contribuer à l'obtention de meilleurs résultats dans l'acquisition de l'orthographe auprès des élèves du CP au CM2.

S'il est encore un enseignement qui interroge aujourd'hui, c'est celui de l'orthographe. L'orthographe lexicale ne suit pas toujours les règles de l'uniformité ou de la réflexion et les exceptions sont légions ; en revanche, en ce qui concerne l'orthographe syntaxique, une fois les apprentissages explicites passés, c'est l'erreur qui ne peut être qu'exception. Questionnant certains choix pédagogiques et didactiques installés depuis des décennies en France, cet ouvrage fait le pari d'une approche par compétences (les mots-outils, les accords en genre et en nombre, l'imparfait de l'indicatif...) et par niveau (du CE1 au collège) afin de faciliter les progrès des élèves. Dans la première partie, est abordée la genèse d'un certain nombre de règles syntaxiques (pourquoi un « s » ou un « x » pour marquer le pluriel des noms et des adjectifs ? Pourquoi telle morphologie pour ce temps de la conjugaison ? Etc.). Fondée sur « la pédagogie de la maitrise » (attendre que les élèves soient à l'aise avec une notion avant d'en aborder une plus complexe), la seconde partie favorise une nouvelle approche par « situations-problèmes » motivantes, souvent à partir d'écrits authentiques. Les exercices-jeux proposés permettent ainsi d'entrainer l'apprenant et de mieux cerner ses compétences ainsi que celles du groupe de niveau auquel il participe. Le CD-Rom contient 200 fiches élèves ainsi que leurs corrigés. Organisé par niveaux et par compétences, il facilite la mise en oeuvre de la différenciation.
