This book tells the story of Jin Lan McCann, a Chinese woman who experienced China's Cultural Revolution, economic reform and the rapid economic development, then immigrated to the United States. Without a college education, she became one of the first millionaires in China, but spent her wealth saving her ex-boyfriend from a sentence of death. After marrying an American lawyer and receiving an economics degree from Wellesley college, her blog on sina.com, developed 8 years and had over 100,000 readers, received its own death penalty when shut down by the Chinese government. She then realized that she had never been truly free, she could not know she was a chained slave because everyone in that society was brainwashed since birth, and that process never stops. Since then, she spent 5 years to study the modern Chinese history and the society, try to unravel the myths of the modern Chinese history and the so-called Chinese model of development. She also offered her views of the western democracy and believes it will require enormous efforts to withstand the challenges of losing its world leadership position.

This book unravels the myth of a rising China and a falling American Empire through the eyes of Jin Lan McCann, an American Chinese woman who experienced China's Cultural Revolution, economic reform and its rapid economic development, then immigrated to the United States. Without a college education, she became one of the first millionaires in China, but spent her wealth saving her ex-boyfriend from a sentence of death. After marrying an American lawyer and receiving an economics degree from Wellesley College, she experienced and observed the unbelievable suffering of the American working class and small business owners. She then realized that democracy doesn't necessarily guarantee people's freedom. When people can't grow, they are not free! She identified that the root of modern slavery is big government policies that take away an individual's resources and regulations that tie an entrepreneur's hands. By showing how Taoism and Reaganomics guided China's economic reform and achieved enviable success, she desperately urges Americans to revalue these devalued conservative/ancient wisdoms.

The Power Of One written by Frances Haugen and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The inside story of one woman’s quest to bring transparency and accountability to Big Tech, by the Facebook whistleblower who is determined to help us all retake control of our lives. In 2021, when news outlets feasted on “the Facebook Files,” Frances Haugen went public as the former employee who blew the whistle on the company by copying tens of thousands of pages of documents. She testified to Congress and spoke to the media. She was hailed at President Biden’s first State of the Union Address. She made sure everyone understood exactly what the documents revealed: Facebook knew it had accidentally changed its algorithm to reward extremism and refused to fix it; it knew that its customers were using the platform to foment violence, to spread falsehoods, to diminish the self-esteem of young women, and more. But how was it that Haugen was the only employee at the company who dared to step forward? The answer to that question is an inspiring tale of one young woman’s life and the choices she made. From an isolated childhood in Iowa to an unaccredited college, to one among the few women at Google in its heyday, Frances Haugen learned how to focus on what mattered, and to ignore her critics. To harness the strength of standing in the truth. The Power of One is equally inspiring—the story of a woman who went against the grain, again and again, and changed the world—and horrifying, as the culture and practices of Facebook are brought into the bright light of day, for the first time.

Transforming Power written by Seth Kreisberg and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-11-08 with Education categories.

This book is about power — power in the classroom, in our schools, and in our society. Schools, teachers, students, and teaching exist in a churning cauldron of interrelated institutions and social forces. Power relations in schools reflect these larger societal forces and the interconnections of our institutions. This book is also about empowerment — the empowerment of teachers and students. It explores the process through which people develop more control over their lives and acquire the skills and dispositions necessary to be critical and effective participants in our society. The heart of this book, and Kreisberg's unique contribution to the empowerment literature, is his elucidation of the difference between power over and power with in his search to understand the nature of power that can empower individuals and communities. Kreisberg draws upon educational, political, feminist, and psychological theory, and, especially, the voices of teachers, in his framing of the question: What are the dynamics of power that we as teachers can create in our relationships with our students that will be empowering for both our students and ourselves?
