Organizado por Adriana Jordão, Davi Pinho e Maria Conceição Monteiro, o livro Escritos Discentes em Literaturas de Língua Inglesa, volume XIV, que reúne as publicações dos alunos de Literaturas de Língua Inglesa do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras, confirma, mais uma vez, o valioso trabalho de formação de pesquisadores realizado ao longo de décadas nesta nossa Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). As professoras Leila Assumpção Harris e Maria Aparecida Andrade Salgueiro estão mais uma vez à frente de uma das iniciativas mais bem sucedidas destes 30 anos de existência do Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras stricto sensu da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro: a coleção Escritos discentes em literaturas de língua inglesa. Chegando agora ao seu décimo volume, a coleção consolidou-se, definitivamente, como um meio privilegiado de divulgação das pesquisas realizadas pelos mestrandos e doutorandos da especialidade de Literaturas de Língua Inglesa, cuja pujança é atestada tanto pela qualidade quanto pela diversidade dos temas recobertos pelos trabalhos aqui reunidos. A história da série teve início com uma exitosa atividade acadêmica, cultivada por anos pela especialidade, a dos seminários internos, em que os alunos apresentavam o andamento de seus estudos e eram beneficiados pelos comentários, críticas e sugestões de professores e colegas. Tão bem sucedida foi a prática dos simpósios que ultrapassou os limites da especialidade, e permanece viva, hoje, nos Seminários anuais dos alunos, no âmbito geral do PPG-Letras. Na condição de coordenador atual do Programa, não posso deixar ainda de saudar a publicação de mais um volume da série, uma vez que ela contempla um dos quesitos de avaliação mais valorizados pela CAPES – a produção bibliográfica de mestrandos e doutorandos. Louva-se, nesse sentido, não apenas a publicação do livro em si, mas seu processo de elaboração: os capítulos, supervisionados pelos orientadores, valem também como um precioso exercício de escrita de futuros artigos, destinados aos veículos especializados da área. O livro Literaturas de Língua Inglesa: leituras interdisciplinares – Vol. VIII, organizado por Davi Pinho e Maria Conceição Monteiro, é mais um livro de uma longa e importante série de publicações da especialidade de Literaturas de Língua Inglesa do programa de Pós-graduação em Letras da UERJ. Esta série que se iniciou em 2003, com as publicações sob o título de Feminismos, Identidades, Comparativismos: Vertentes nas Literaturas de Língua Inglesa, coleção que se estendeu sem interrupção até o ano de 2015. Em 2016 se inicia uma nova série de publicações sob o título Literaturas de Língua Inglesa: Leituras Interdisciplinares, o presente livro é o oitavo livro dessa tão necessária coleção. Desde pelo menos 2003, então, a especialidade se compromete a lançar coletâneas de extrema qualidade. Os livros reúnem artigos dos professores que atuam no ILE/UERJ, além de convidados internacionais e nacionais de extrema relevância para as diversas vertentes e trânsitos das Literaturas de Língua Inglesa no Brasil e no mundo. O volume VIII novamente reúne um corpus de muito fôlego não apenas em termos da variedade de autoras e autores trabalhados nos textos aqui reunidos, mas também nas suas temáticas e aporte teórico. Como professora da especialidade e vice-coordenadora do PPG Letras, este livro fala muito próximo ao meu coração. Desde 2016, o Leituras Interdisciplinares abraça, com muito carinho, pesquisas das mais distintas. E esta edição confirma esse compromisso dessa coleção de escritos dos docentes da área com a pluralidade e a importância do diálogo dos saberes, sobretudo pela necessidade contínua da reflexão política em um mundo tão conturbado e carecedor de amor e compreensão. A publicação do volume XIII de Escritos Discentes em Literaturas de Língua Inglesa, série intitulada até 2015, antes da abertura do Doutorado, Seminário de Pesquisa Discente do Mestrado em Literaturas de Língua Inglesa, marca mais um produto de nossa Especialidade no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras da UERJ, em 2020.Neste ano de incertezas e dificuldades, a importância do coletivo mais do que nunca merece atenção. Por isso, começamos com os agradecimentos. O volume só se tornou possível graças a um esforço conjunto, envolvendo, entre tantos, a Direção do Instituto de Letras, a Coordenação Geral do PPGL/UERJ, os docentes da Especialidade em Literaturas de Língua Inglesa, que, por sua dedicação à pesquisa e ao ensino, seu incentivo constante aos alunos/as, e sua supervisão cuidadosa dos textos, contribuíram para a qualidade dos artigos aqui incluídos. In March 2015, the eleventh edition of The Child and the Book Conference was organized at the University of Aveiro in Portugal. The conference was related to the theme of fracture and disruption in children’s and young adult literature. This publication provides not only a synthesis of the main reflections, but also a starting point for understanding the issues of fracture and disruption within children’s and young adult literature. This book is the first volume specifically devoted to the phonetics and phonology of geminate consonants, a feature of many of the world's languages including Arabic, Bengali, Finnish, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Malayalam, Persian, Saami, Swiss German, and Turkish. While the contrast between geminate and singleton consonants has been widely studied, the phonetic manifestation and phonological nature of geminate consonants, as well as their cross-linguistic similarities and differences, are not fully understood. The volume brings together original data and novel analyses of geminate consonants in a variety of languages across the world. The starting point for this collection is a chapter by Dick Allwright on the language learning and teaching classroom experience entitled Six Promising Directions in Applied Linguistics.
