This text places the basic ideas of real analysis and numerical analysis together in an applied setting that is both accessible and motivational to young students. The essentials of real analysis are presented in the context of a fundamental problem of applied mathematics, which is to approximate the solution of a physical model. The framework of existence, uniqueness, and methods to approximate solutions of model equations is sufficiently broad to introduce and motivate all the basic ideas of real analysis. The book includes background and review material, numerous examples, visualizations and alternate explanations of some key ideas, and a variety of exercises ranging from simple computations to analysis and estimates to computations on a computer.

Regression Analysis written by Jeremy Arkes and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-21 with Business & Economics categories.

With the rise of "big data," there is an increasing demand to learn the skills needed to undertake sound quantitative analysis without requiring students to spend too much time on high-level math and proofs. This book provides an efficient alternative approach, with more time devoted to the practical aspects of regression analysis and how to recognize the most common pitfalls. By doing so, the book will better prepare readers for conducting, interpreting, and assessing regression analyses, while simultaneously making the material simpler and more enjoyable to learn. Logical and practical in approach, Regression Analysis teaches: (1) the tools for conducting regressions; (2) the concepts needed to design optimal regression models (based on avoiding the pitfalls); and (3) the proper interpretations of regressions. Furthermore, this book emphasizes honesty in research, with a prevalent lesson being that statistical significance is not the goal of research. This book is an ideal introduction to regression analysis for anyone learning quantitative methods in the social sciences, business, medicine, and data analytics. It will also appeal to researchers and academics looking to better understand what regressions do, what their limitations are, and what they can tell us. This will be the most engaging book on regression analysis (or Econometrics) you will ever read! A First Course In Differential Equations written by John David Logan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Mathematics categories.

While the standard sophomore course on elementary differential equations is typically one semester in length, most of the texts currently being used for these courses have evolved into calculus-like presentations that include a large collection of methods and applications, packaged with state-of-the-art color graphics, student solution manuals, the latest fonts, marginal notes, and web-based supplements. All of this adds up to several hundred pages of text and can be very expensive. Many students do not have the time or desire to read voluminous texts and explore internet supplements. Thats what makes the format of this differential equations book unique. It is a one-semester, brief treatment of the basic ideas, models, and solution methods. Its limited coverage places it somewhere between an outline and a detailed textbook. The author writes concisely, to the point, and in plain language. Many worked examples and exercises are included. A student who works through this primer will have the tools to go to the next level in applying ODEs to problems in engineering, science, and applied mathematics. It will also give instructors, who want more concise coverage, an alternative to existing texts. This text also encourages students to use a computer algebra system to solve problems numerically. It can be stated with certainty that the numerical solution of differential equations is a central activity in science and engineering, and it is absolutely necessary to teach students scientific computation as early as possible. Templates of MATLAB programs that solve differential equations are given in an appendix. Maple and Mathematica commands are given as well. The author taught this material on several ocassions to students who have had a standard three-semester calculus sequence. It has been well received by many students who appreciated having a small, definitive parcel of material to learn. Moreover, this text gives students the opportunity to start reading mathematics at a slightly higher level than experienced in pre-calculus and calculus; not every small detail is included. Therefore the book can be a bridge in their progress to study more advanced material at the junior-senior level, where books leave a lot to the reader and are not packaged with elementary formats. J. David Logan is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He is the author of another recent undergraduate textbook, Applied Partial Differential Equations, 2nd Edition (Springer 2004).

This new version of the bestselling Computer-Aided Multivariate Analysis has been appropriately renamed to better characterize the nature of the book. Taking into account novel multivariate analyses as well as new options for many standard methods, Practical Multivariate Analysis, Fifth Edition shows readers how to perform multivariate statistical analyses and understand the results. For each of the techniques presented in this edition, the authors use the most recent software versions available and discuss the most modern ways of performing the analysis. New to the Fifth Edition Chapter on regression of correlated outcomes resulting from clustered or longitudinal samples Reorganization of the chapter on data analysis preparation to reflect current software packages Use of R statistical software Updated and reorganized references and summary tables Additional end-of-chapter problems and data sets The first part of the book provides examples of studies requiring multivariate analysis techniques; discusses characterizing data for analysis, computer programs, data entry, data management, data clean-up, missing values, and transformations; and presents a rough guide to assist in choosing the appropriate multivariate analysis. The second part examines outliers and diagnostics in simple linear regression and looks at how multiple linear regression is employed in practice and as a foundation for understanding a variety of concepts. The final part deals with the core of multivariate analysis, covering canonical correlation, discriminant, logistic regression, survival, principal components, factor, cluster, and log-linear analyses. While the text focuses on the use of R, S-PLUS, SAS, SPSS, Stata, and STATISTICA, other software packages can also be used since the output of most standard statistical programs is explained. Data sets and code are available for download from the book’s web page and CRC Press Online.
